چکیده

Haptics research has seen several recent efforts at understanding and recreating real vibrations to improve the quality of haptic feedback in both virtual environments and teleoperation. To simplify the modeling process and enable the use of single-axis actuators, these previous efforts have used just one axis of a threedimensional vibration signal, even though the main vibration mechanoreceptors in the hand are know to detect vibrations in all directions. Furthermore, the fact that these mechanoreceptors are largely insensitive to the direction of high-frequency vibrations points to the existence of a transformation that can reduce threedimensional high-frequency vibration signals to a one-dimensional signal without appreciable perceptual degradation. After formalizing the requirements for this transformation, this paper describes and compares several candidate methods of varying degrees of sophistication, culminating in a novel frequency-domain solution that performs very well on our chosen metrics.

Synergistic Visual / Haptic Computer Interfaces 1

While graphical visualization has advanced our ability to understand large multi-dimensional data sets, some types of data are still diicult to convey visually. Combined visual/haptic computer interfaces may allow users to explore multi-dimensional data sets more naturally, where the human haptic sense involving touch, limb position, and muscle tension provides a complementary information chann...

A GPU-Based Approach for Real-Time Haptic Rendering of 3D Fluids

Real-time haptic rendering of three-dimensional fluid flow will improve the interactivity and realism of video games and surgical simulators, but it remains a challenging undertaking due to its high computational cost. In this work we propose an innovative GPUbased approach that enables real-time haptic rendering of highresolution 3D Navier-Stokes fluids. We show that moving the vast majority o...

One-Dimensional Haptic Rendering Using Audio Speaker with Displacement Determined by Inductance

We report overall design considerations and preliminary results for a new haptic rendering device based on an audio loudspeaker. Our application models tissue properties during microsurgery. For example, the device could respond to the tip of a tool by simulating a particular tissue, displaying a desired compressibility and viscosity, giving way as the tissue is disrupted, or exhibiting indepen...

Based Haptic Rendering and the Protocol

Since haptic rendering requires at least 1 kHz device control latency to obtain high haptic fidelity, haptic rendering process must be separated from others in realtime virtual reality system with haptic/force feedback. Feature-Based Haptic Rendering gives process architecture for load balancing. Haptic rendering is done based on features using feature library. Feature is local haptic character...

Segmentation and Visualization of 3D Medical Images through Haptic Rendering

High-dimensional and high-resolution image data is increasingly produced by modern medical imaging equipment. As a consequence, the need for efficient interactive tools for segmentation and visualization of these medical images is also increasing. Existing software include state-of-the-art algorithms, but in most cases the interaction part is limited to 2D mouse/keyboard, despite the tasks bein...
