چکیده

A continuous range query over moving objects continually retrieves the moving objects that are currently within a given query region of interest. Most existing approaches assume that moving objects continually communicate with the server to report their current locations and the server updates the results of queries continuously. However, this assumption degrades the system performance because the communication cost and the server workload increase when the number of moving objects and queries becomes huge. The Query Region tree (QR-tree) is a query indexing structure, which helps the server cooperate with the moving objects efficiently by utilizing the available computational resources of the moving objects to improve the overall system performance. In this paper, we propose a variant of the QR-tree, namely, QR-tree, which helps reduce (i) the amount of location-update stream generated from moving object and (ii) the server work load for query evaluation. Through a series of comprehensive simulations, we verify the efficiency of the QR-tree in terms of the wireless communication cost and the server workload.

The SSP-Tree: A Method for Distributed Processing of Range Monitoring Queries in Road Networks

This paper addresses the problem of processing range monitoring queries, each of which continuously retrieves moving objects that are currently located within a given query range. In particular, this paper focuses on processing range monitoring queries in the road network, where movements of the objects are constrained by a predefined set of paths. One of the most important challenges of proces...

Boosting Moving Object Indexing through Velocity Partitioning

There have been intense research interests in moving object indexing in the past decade. However, existing work did not exploit the important property of skewed velocity distributions. In many real world scenarios, objects travel predominantly along only a few directions. Examples include vehicles on road networks, flights, people walking on the streets, etc. The search space for a query is hea...

Adaptive cell-based index for moving objects

R-tree based access methods for moving objects are hardly applicable in practice, due mainly to excessive space requirements and high management costs. To overcome the limitations of such R-tree based access methods, we propose a new index structure called AIM (Adaptive cell-based Index for Moving objects). The AIM is a cell-based multiversion access structure adopting an overlapping technique....

Update-efficient Indexing of Moving Objects in Road Networks

Recent advances in wireless sensor networks and positioning technologies have boosted new applications that manage moving objects. In such applications, a dynamic index is often built to expedite evaluation of spatial queries. However, development of efficient indexes is a challenge due to frequent object movement. In this paper, we propose a new update-efficient index method for moving objects...
