چکیده

Some years ago, compactly supported divergence-free wavelets were constructed which also gave rise to a stable (biorthogonal) wavelet splitting of H(div; Ω). These bases have successfully been used both in the analysis and numerical treatment of the Stokes and Navier–Stokes equations. In this paper, we construct stable wavelet bases for the stream function spaces H(curl; Ω). Moreover, curl-free vector wavelets are constructed and analysed. The relationship between H(div; Ω) and H(curl; Ω) are expressed in terms of these wavelets. We obtain discrete (orthogonal) Hodge decompositions. Our construction works independently of the space dimension, but in terms of general assumptions on the underlying wavelet systems in L2(Ω) that are used as building blocks. We give concrete examples of such bases for tensor product and certain more general domains Ω ⊂ Rn. As an application, we obtain wavelet multilevel preconditioners in H(div; Ω) and H(curl; Ω).

Finite Element Methods for Maxwell Equations

1. SOBOLEV SPACES AND WEAK FORMULATIONS Let Ω be a bounded Lipschitz domain in R. We introduce the Sobolev spaces H(curl ; Ω) = {v ∈ L(Ω), curlv ∈ L(Ω)}, H(div; Ω) = {v ∈ L(Ω),div v ∈ L(Ω)} The vector fields (E,H) belong to H(curl ; Ω) while the flux (D,B) in H(div; Ω). We shall use the unified notation H(d; Ω) with d = grad , curl , or div. Note that H(grad ; Ω) is the familiar H(Ω) space. The...

On Friedrichs inequality, Helmholtz decomposition, vector potentials, and the div-curl lemma

We study connections between four different types of results that are concerned with vector-valued functions u : Ω → R of class L(Ω) on a domain Ω ⊂ R: Coercivity results in H(Ω) relying on div and curl, the Helmholtz decomposition, the construction of vector potentials, and the global div-curl lemma. Key-words: Friedrichs inquality, coercivity, div-curl lemma, compensated compactness

A linear algebraic approach to representing and computing finite elements

We use standard ideas from numerical linear algebra plus orthogonal bases for polynomials to compute abstract finite elements. We express nodal bases in terms of orthogonal ones. This paradigm allows us to differentiate polynomials, evaluate local bilinear forms, and compute with affine equivalent elements. It applies not only to Lagrangian elements, but also to Hermite elements, H(div) and H(c...

H ( div ) and H ( curl ) - conforming VEM

In the present paper we construct Virtual Element Spaces that are H(div)-conforming and H(curl)-conforming on general polygonal and polyhedral elements; these spaces can be interpreted as a generalization of well known Finite Elements. We moreover present the basic tools needed to make use of these spaces in the approximation of partial differential equations. Finally, we discuss the constructi...

Real-World Repetition Estimation by Div, Grad and Curl

We consider the problem of estimating repetition in video, such as performing push-ups, cutting a melon or playing violin. Existing work shows good results under the assumption of static and stationary periodicity. As realistic video is rarely perfectly static and stationary, the often preferred Fourier-based measurements is inapt. Instead, we adopt the wavelet transform to better handle non-st...
