Texture Synthesis From Photographs

چکیده
The goal of texture synthesis is to generate an arbitrarily large high-quality texture from a small input sample. Generally, it is assumed that the input image is given as a flat, square piece of texture, thus it has to be carefully prepared from a picture taken under ideal conditions. Instead we would like to extract the input texture from any surface from within an arbitrary photograph. This introduces several challenges: Only parts of the photograph are covered with the texture of interest, perspective and scene geometry introduce distortions, and the texture is non-uniformly sampled during the capture process. This breaks many of the assumptions used for synthesis. In this paper we combine a simple novel user interface with a generic per-pixel synthesis algorithm to achieve high-quality synthesis from a photograph. Our interface lets the user locally describe the geometry supporting the textures by combining rational Bézier patches. These are particularly well suited to describe curved surfaces under projection. Further, we extend per-pixel synthesis to account for arbitrary texture sparsity and distortion, both in the input image and in the synthesis output. Applications range from synthesizing textures directly from photographs to high-quality texture completion.

Coherent Texture Synthesis for Photograph Relighting and Texture Replacement
In this thesis, we present a texture synthesis method for realistic rendering without acquiring the actual reflectance properties. The method is from the observation that most objects have texture repeatedly laid on different locations of their surface explicitly or implicitly. These samples form a pretty sparse set of BTFs. Our goal is to extract the underlying texture from photographs of the ...
متن کاملStrike a Pose: Image-Based Pose Synthesis
In this paper, our objective is to facilitate the creation of novel human poses by synthesizing images. Existing approaches commonly deform one single image, which often results in a distorted image due to texture and illumination artefacts. We present a novel image-based pose synthesis technique that accurately reconstructs texture details by combining information from multiple photographs. Gi...
متن کاملRealistic Texture Generation and Artistic Enhancement for CG Images
Computer-generated (CG) images has many applications in both computer games and films, but one concern about the computer generated(CG) images is that even if the 3D model is perfect, if the texture is not that real, then humans can still tell that the CG image is fake. The goal of the paper is that we can help artists automatically generate the textures from real photographs, based on the raw ...
متن کاملRegion Completion in a Texture using Multiresolution Transforms
Abstract Natural images, textures and photographs are likely to be impaired by stains. As a result a substantial portion of the image remains blurred. However, a method called region completion is adopted to fill in the tainted part by using the information from the portion left unblemished by stains. A novel method to perform this operation is proposed in this paper. The three significant sta...
متن کاملTexturing Internal Surfaces from a Few Cross Sections
We introduce a new appearance-modeling paradigm for synthesizing the internal structure of a 3D model from photographs of a few cross-sections of a real object. When the internal surfaces of the 3D model are revealed as it is cut, carved, or simply clipped, we synthesize their texture from the input photographs. Our texture synthesis algorithm is best classified as a morphing technique, which e...
