Capacity-efficient Planning of Resilient Networks with p-Cycles

چکیده
The p-Cycle concept is an efficient way to protect the network traffic against failures of network elements. We present the methods and issues related to network planning, management and operations of p-Cycles and highlight the advantages using this concept. Furthermore we report efficiency results of a case-study of the deployment of p-Cycles in Wavelength Divison Multiplex (WDM) networks.

Recently there has been interest in DWDM-based optical networks that are assumed to employ exactly two working fibers uniformly on every span (or “link”). At the fiber level such networks are referred to as homogeneous networks. An interesting and highly efficient strategy for protection of such networks is to use a single dark-fiber pcycle formed on a Hamiltonian cycle (if it exists). We show ...
متن کاملA reliability analysis of Double-Ring topologies with Dual Attachment using p-cycles for optical metro networks
The distribution of multicast traffic (e.g. IPTV or business point-to-multipoint) in the metropolitan environment requires highly resilient network infrastructures. Currentlydeployed fibre ducts in the metropolitan area are typically based on ring topologies interconnected by the dual homing approach. In this study, an easy evolution towards meshed topologies is proposed, based on Double Rings ...
متن کاملSecurity-Based Co-Expansion Planning of Gas and Electricity Networks Considering Demand Response
Coordinated expansion planning of power plants has always attracted the attention of power industry planners to arrive at the optimal mix that assures adequacy of energy supply. Here, we model the coordinates for expansion of electricity and gas networks while considering technical constraints, in order to minimize the total cost of investment and operation of electricity and gas networks for a...
متن کاملTheoretical underpinnings for the efficiency of restorable networks using preconfigured cycles ("p-cycles")
Recent work on restorable networks has shown experimentally that one can support 100% restoration with an optimized set of closed cycles of spare capacity while requiring little or no increase in spare capacity relative to a span-restorable mesh network. This is important and unexpected because it implies that future restoration schemes could be as capacity efficient as a mesh network, while be...
متن کاملResilient Networks with Non-Simple p-Cycles
We investigate the protection of network elements with non-simple p-cycles. We present four types of non-simple cycles; discuss the characteristics of non-simple cycles and present basic examples when and where non-simple cycles have an advantage compared to the protection with elementary cycles only. We develop a combined mathematical formulation for the routing and p-cycle optimization proces...
