Hepatic Lipidosis in Reptiles

چکیده

1) Fat or too plentiful diets (associated to obesity and increased abdominal fat bodies). Diagnosed in badly fed crocodiles, lizards and turtles (Maccolini 2010). 2) Reduced activity. Absence of exercise. Diagnosed in monitors and turtles (Stahl 2003). 3) Physiologic disorder. Lack of hibernation. Lack of reproduction. Diagnosed in tortoises and iguanas. 4) Chronic hyporexia and stress. It decreases the glycaemia and increases glucagon. Both factors favour fat release into blood and storage of triglycerides in liver cells (Ware. 1998). Diagnosed particularly in invasive turtles grown wild.

Sex specific differences in hepatic and plasma lipid profiles in healthy cats pre and post spaying and neutering: relationship with feline hepatic lipidosis

BACKGROUND A link between lipid metabolism and disease has been recognized in cats. Since hepatic lipidosis is a frequent disorder in cats, the aim of the current study was to evaluate liver and plasma lipid dimorphism in healthy cats and the effects of gonadectomy on lipid profiling. From six female and six male cats plasma and liver lipid profiles before and after spaying/neutering were asses...

Metabolomic biomarkers correlating with hepatic lipidosis in dairy cows

BACKGROUND Hepatic lipidosis or fatty liver disease is a major metabolic disorder of high-producing dairy cows that compromises animal performance and, hence, causes heavy economic losses worldwide. This syndrome, occurring during the critical transition from gestation to early lactation, leads to an impaired health status, decreased milk yield, reduced fertility and shortened lifetime. Because...

Suppression of cytochrome P450 reductase (POR) expression in hepatoma cells replicates the hepatic lipidosis observed in hepatic POR-null mice.

Cytochrome P450 reductase (POR) is a microsomal electron transport protein essential to cytochrome P450-mediated drug metabolism and sterol and bile acid synthesis. The conditional deletion of hepatic POR gene expression in mice results in a marked decrease in plasma cholesterol levels counterbalanced by the accumulation of triglycerides in lipid droplets in hepatocytes. To evaluate the role of...

Hepatic lipidosis in pregnant captive American bison (Bison bison).

Hepatic lipidosis, a hallmark lesion of lipid mobilization disorders in ruminants, was noted in four 3-year-old, pregnant bison (Bison bison) after periods of anorexia that progressed to recumbency and death. The affected bison were part of a herd at the National Animal Disease Center (NADC) that was used for brucellosis vaccine research. Microscopically, the liver contained swollen hepatocytes...
