Effect of thimerosal on the neurodevelopment of premature rats.

چکیده
BACKGROUND This study was undertaken to determine the effect of thimerosal on the neurodevelopment of premature rats. METHODS Thimerosal was injected into premature SD rats at a dose of 32.8, 65.6, 98.4 or 131.2 μg/kg on postnatal day 1. Expression of dopamine D4 receptor (DRD4) and serotonin 2A receptor (5-HT2AR), apoptosis in the prefrontal cortex on post-injection day 49, and learning and memory function were studied and compared with those in a control group injected with saline. RESULTS Expression of DRD4 and 5-HT2AR and learning function decreased, and apoptosis increased significantly in the 131.2 μg/kg group (P<0.001). Memory function was significantly impaired by 65.6 (P<0.05), 98.4 and 131.2 μg/kg (P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS The negative adverse consequences on neurodevelopment observed in the present study are consistent with previous studies; this study raised serious concerns about adverse neurodevelopmental disorder such as autism in humans following the ongoing worldwide routine administration of thimerosalcontaining vaccines to infants.

Effects of Thimerosal on Cerebellum Tissue and Neurodevelopmental Disorders Related Behaviors in Rats
Background: Thimerosal (THIM) is one of the most important and inexpensive preservatives in many pharmaceutical and health products. The current knowledge on the impact of this substance on fetal neurodevelopment and incidence of behavioral and tissue defects is very controversial. Here we investigated neonatal administration of THIM on behaviors and cerebellar tissue, which are important in...

Thimerosal in Childhood Vaccines , Neurodevelopment Disorders , and Heart Disease in the United States
Introduction Abstract In this study, we evaluated doses of mercury from thimerosal-containing childhood immunizations in comparison to US Federal Safety Guidelines and the effects of increasing doses of mercury on the inc idence of neurodevelopment disorders and heart disease. This study showed that children received mercury from this source in excess of the Federal Safety Guidelines for the or...
متن کاملThimerosal exposure (from tetanus-diphtheria vaccine) during pregnancy and neurodevelopment of breastfed infants at 6 months.
AIM We studied the effect on neurodevelopment of infants who are exposed to thimerosal in tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccines during pregnancy. METHODS We compared Gesell Developmental Schedules (GDS) of exclusive breastfed infants at 6 months born to mothers who received Td (1 to 3 doses) against those who were born to mothers who did not take such vaccines. RESULTS Compared with the group of...
متن کاملP33: Effect of Mother\'s Anxiety on Fetus
The prenatal period is a critical time for neurodevelopment and is thus a period of vulnerability during which a range of exposures have been found to exert long-term changes on brain development and behavior with implications for physical and psychiatric health. During fetal life, neurons proliferate, migrate and form connections, providing the structure of the developing brain. Neurons reach ...
