SURFACE SCIENCE LETTERS COMMENT ON ‘NITRIC OXIDE ADSORPTION ON THE Si(100)(2 X 1) SURFACE - A VIBRATIONAL STUDY, BY

چکیده
Both molecular and dissociative adsorption hehaviour of NO on the Si(OO1)(2 x 1) surface at room temperature have been reported. This contradicting difference in adsorption behaviour was obtained from the application of different experimental methods. The attention must be focused on the various sample preparation techniques used and on the influence of primary excitation sources of the different experimental techniques applied on this adsorbed system.

Surface Studied with Auger Electron Spectroscopy
We present an Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) study of the adsorption of nitric oxide (NO) on a dean Si(100)2 × 1 surface at 300 and 550 K. Accurate measurements reveal wall resolved fine structure at Auger Si L2.3 w transitions at 62 and 83 eV. These peaks can be attributed to Si-O and Si-N bonds. Furthermore, it is argued that the broadening in the SiLi2,~W Auger transition at 83 eV at 300 ...
متن کاملCO-NO and CO-O(2) interactions on Cu(100) between 25 and 200 K studied with infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy.
Infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRAS) has been used to study CO-NO and CO-O(2) interactions on Cu(100) between 25 and 200 K. A strong repulsive interaction between CO and NO on Cu(100) at 25 K causes tilting of the CO molecules away from the surface normal and a blue-shift of the CO vibrational frequency. Upon warming and decomposition of the NO, the CO molecules return to a bondin...
متن کاملAdsorption of methanol, formaldehyde and formic acid on the Si(100)-2Â1 surface : A computational study
The adsorption of methanol, formaldehyde and formic acid on the Si(100)-2]1 surface have been investigated by means of Ðrst-principles density functional cluster model calculations and ab initio ONIOM calculations. The dissociative adsorption of methanol on the Si(100) surface takes place readily, giving rise to and 3 SiÈH surface species. The reaction, occurring barrierlessly via a stable chem...
متن کاملComment on "vibrational recognition of hydrogen-bonded water networks on a metal surface".
The adsorption of water on Pt(111) surface has been studied with ab initio molecular dynamics simulation. Both the energetics and vibrational dynamics indicate the existence of a well-ordered molecular bilayer on this surface. This conclusion is in contrast to the recent result of water on Ru(0001) surface, but agrees with available experiments. In addition, our calculation identifies two diffe...
متن کاملMolecular beam investigation of hydrogen dissociation on Si(001) and Si(111) surfaces.
The influence of molecular vibrations on the reaction dynamics of H2 on Si(001) as well as isotopic effects have been investigated by means of optical second-harmonic generation and molecular beam techniques. Enhanced dissociation of vibrationally excited H2 on Si(001)2 x 1 has been found corresponding to a reduction of the mean adsorption barrier to 390 meV and 180 meV for nu=1 and nu=2, respe...
