Task Structuring a Brainstorming Group Activity with an AHP-Based Group Support System

چکیده
The use of Group Support Systems has been researched repeatedly using many task-type. For brainstorming tasks the process support of the system have been restricted to ensuring member anonymity and allowing the simultaneous entry of ideas. Little work has been done investigating other process improvements for idea-generating groups. In this paper, we investigate the effect on idea quality and quantity of decomposing a brainstorming task with a South African setting. Using Team Expert Choice, an Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) based group support system. We conduct an experiment with two groups. We hypothesize that task decomposition will generate more and better quality ideas. Our findings show that task decomposition resulted in 40% more ideas than no decomposition; the effect on decision quality is statistically significant only when decision quality is measured as the number of good ideas.

متن کاملChapter 5 From Brainstorming to Structuring to Evaluation and Choice Brainstorming
Brainstorming Abandoning the bogsat for compensatory2 decision-making with AHP is sometimes too big a first step for some organizations. Instead, a series of small steps might be easier to implement. An easy and prductive first step is to encourage the seeking out of several alternative solutions to a problem or opportunity rather than settling on the first one that seems feasible. Since most p...
متن کاملEquality of Reticence in Groups and Idea Generation: an Empirical Study
Contingency models proposed for group support systems suggest that task, technology, group and individual characteristics may explain observed effects. Task, technology and group characteristics have been studied to some extent. Characteristics of individual participants have received less attention. In this article, the results of an experimental study on the equality of reticence in groups on...
متن کاملStructuring Time and Brainstorming 1 Task in Electronic
There are many ways in which a GSS can be used to support group brainstorming. This paper reports the results of an experiment hat manipulated task structure and time structure. Groups electronically brainstormed on intact tasks (where all parts of the task were presented simultaneously) or on partitioned tasks (where three subcategories of the task were presented to the groups). The time perio...
