چکیده

We initiate the study of the Bipartite Contraction problem from the perspective of parameterized complexity. In this problem we are given a graph G and an integer k, and the task is to determine whether we can obtain a bipartite graph from G by a sequence of at most k edge contractions. Our main result is an f(k) n time algorithm for Bipartite Contraction. Despite a strong resemblance between Bipartite Contraction and the classical Odd Cycle Transversal (OCT) problem, the methods developed to tackle OCT do not seem to be directly applicable to Bipartite Contraction. Our algorithm is based on a novel combination of the irrelevant vertex technique, introduced by Robertson and Seymour, and the concept of important separators. Both techniques have previously been used as key components of algorithms for fundamental problems in parameterized complexity. However, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first time the two techniques are applied in unison.

Balanced Degree-Magic Labelings of Complete Bipartite Graphs under Binary Operations

A graph is called supermagic if there is a labeling of edges where the edges are labeled with consecutive distinct positive integers such that the sum of the labels of all edges incident with any vertex is constant. A graph G is called degree-magic if there is a labeling of the edges by integers 1, 2, ..., |E(G)| such that the sum of the labels of the edges incident with any vertex v is equal t...

Obtaining Planarity by Contracting Few Edges

The Planar Contraction problem is to test whether a given graph can be made planar by using at most k edge contractions. This problem is known to be NP-complete. We show that it is fixedparameter tractable when parameterized by k.

Inverses of bicyclic graphs

A graph G is said to be nonsingular (resp., singular) if its adjacency matrix A(G) is nonsingular (resp., singular). The inverse of a nonsingular graph G is the unique weighted graph whose adjacency matrix is similar to the inverse of the adjacency matrix A(G) via a diagonal matrix of ±1s. Consider connected bipartite graphs with unique perfect matchings such that the graph obtained by contract...

Remainder Cordial Labeling of Graphs

In this paper we introduce remainder cordial labeling of graphs. Let $G$ be a $(p,q)$ graph. Let $f:V(G)rightarrow {1,2,...,p}$ be a $1-1$ map. For each edge $uv$ assign the label $r$ where $r$ is the remainder when $f(u)$ is divided by $f(v)$ or $f(v)$ is divided by $f(u)$ according as $f(u)geq f(v)$ or $f(v)geq f(u)$. The function$f$ is called a remainder cordial labeling of $G$ if $left| e_{...

On Edge-Decomposition of Cubic Graphs into Copies of the Double-Star with Four Edges‎

‎A tree containing exactly two non-pendant vertices is called a double-star‎. ‎Let $k_1$ and $k_2$ be two positive integers‎. ‎The double-star with degree sequence $(k_1+1‎, ‎k_2+1‎, ‎1‎, ‎ldots‎, ‎1)$ is denoted by $S_{k_1‎, ‎k_2}$‎. ‎It is known that a cubic graph has an $S_{1,1}$-decomposition if and only if it contains a perfect matching‎. ‎In this paper‎, ‎we study the $S_{1,2}$-decomposit...
