چکیده
This white paper will focus on trigeminal neuralgia (TN) with sections one though five (IV) comprising a general review of trigeminal neuralgia from eMedicine.com, more information can be found at http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1145144-overview and http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/248933-overview. Section six (VI) will provide an overview of imaging associated with TN. Section seven (VII) will provide a literature review on stereotactic radiosurgery for TN and section eight (VIII) (Society Members Only) will provide clinical indications and treatment guidelines on stereotactic radiosurgery for TN.

Outcome for patients with essential trigeminal neuralgia treated with linear accelerator stereotactic radiosurgery.
BACKGROUND Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is one option for treatment of trigeminal neuralgia, after unsuccessful conservative approaches. OBJECTIVES The objective of this study was to retrospectively evaluate our institutional results in the management of patients with idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia treated with linear accelerator SRS. METHODS Fifty-two patients were treated between Janu...
متن کاملMicrovascular Decompression Versus Stereotactic Radiosurgery for Trigeminal Neuralgia: A Decision Analysis
INTRODUCTION Both microvascular decompression (MVD) and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) have been demonstrated to be effective in treating medically refractory trigeminal neuralgia. However, there is controversy over which one offers more durable pain relief and the patient selection for each treatment. We used a decision analysis model to calculate the health-related quality of life (QOL) for...
متن کاملOral Squamous Cell Carcinoma Found Inline with the Fields of Repeat Stereotactic Radiosurgery for Recurrent Trigeminal Neuralgia
A case of an extremely healthy, active, 96-year-old patient, nonsmoker, is reviewed. He was initially treated for left V1, V2, and V3 trigeminal neuralgia in 2001, at age 80, with stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) with a dose of 80 Gy to the left retrogasserian trigeminal nerve. He remained asymptomatic for nine years until his trigeminal pain recurred in 2010. He was first treated medically but ...
متن کاملJournal Club: Surgical Management of Trigeminal Neuralgia: Use and Cost-Effectiveness From an Analysis of the Medicare Claims Database.
BACKGROUND Trigeminal neuralgia is a relatively common neurosurgical pathology with multiple management options. Microvascular decompression (MVD) is nonablative and is considered the gold standard. However, stereotaxic radiosurgery (SRS) and percutaneous stereotaxic rhizotomy (PSR) are 2 noninvasive but ablative options that have rapidly gained support. OBJECTIVE To use Medicare claims data ...
متن کاملLong-term outcome of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) in patients with acoustic neuromas.
PURPOSE To evaluate the effectiveness and long-term outcome of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for acoustic neuromas (AN). PATIENTS AND METHODS Between 1990 and 2001, we treated 26 patients with 27 AN with SRS. Two patients suffered from neurofibromatosis type 2. Before SRS, a subtotal or total resection had been performed in 3 and in 5 patients, respectively. For SRS, a median single dose of...
