Four Retreats and a Forum: A Meditation on Retreats as a Response to Change
نویسنده
چکیده
THEAUTHOR DESCRIBES FOUR SUCCESSIVE library retreats held by the Bowling Green State University library staff from 1995 to 1998. The retreats reflect the changes that have occurred in library work and in management theory since the early 1990s. The importance of technology to library work is recognized, but there is also a growing realization that developing a flexible staff-capable of learning new skills and willing to absorb the values of the organization-is really the key to maintaining a fully functioning and well-respected academic library.

Initial Meditative Experiences: Part I
This is an account of the subjective experiences of some two years of Vipassana or Insight meditation. متن کاملMean-field thalamocortical modeling of longitudinal EEG acquired during intensive meditation training
Meditation training has been shown to enhance attention and improve emotion regulation. However, the brain processes associated with such training are poorly understood and a computational modeling framework is lacking. Modeling approaches that can realistically simulate neurophysiological data while conforming to basic anatomical and physiological constraints can provide a unique opportunity t...
متن کاملEnhanced response inhibition during intensive meditation training predicts improvements in self-reported adaptive socioemotional functioning.
We examined the impact of training-induced improvements in self-regulation, operationalized in terms of response inhibition, on longitudinal changes in self-reported adaptive socioemotional functioning. Data were collected from participants undergoing 3 months of intensive meditation training in an isolated retreat setting (Retreat 1) and a wait-list control group that later underwent identical...
متن کاملWithin-person changes in mindfulness and self-compassion predict enhanced emotional well-being in healthy, but stressed adolescents.
Meditation training programs for adolescents are predicated on the assumptions that mindfulness and self-compassion can be directly cultivated, and further, that doing so is beneficial for emotional well-being. Yet, very little research with adolescents has tested these assumptions directly. In the current study, I examined longitudinal relationships between changes in mindfulness and self-comp...
