چکیده

A given polynomial, possibly with multiple roots, is factored into several lower-degree distinct-root polynomials with natural-order-integer powers. All the roots, including multiplicities, of the original polynomial may be obtained by solving these lowerdegree distinct-root polynomials, instead of the original high-degree multiple-root polynomial directly. The approach requires polynomial Greatest Common Divisor (GCD) computation. The very simple and effective process, “Monic polynomial subtractions” converted trickily from “Longhand polynomial divisions” of Euclidean algorithm is employed. It requires only simple elementary arithmetic operations without any advanced mathematics. Amazingly, the derived routine gives the expected results for the test polynomials of very high degree, such as 1000 ( ) ( 1) p x x . Keywords—Polynomial roots, greatest common divisor, Longhand polynomial division, Euclidean GCD Algorithm.

On Solving Univariate Polynomial Equations over Finite Fields and Some Related Problems

We show deterministic polynomial time algorithms over some family of finite fields for solving univariate polynomial equations and some related problems such as taking nth roots, constructing nth nonresidues, constructing primitive elements and computing elliptic curve “nth roots”. In additional, we present a deterministic polynomial time primality test for some family of integers. All algorith...

The Determination of Galois Groups

A technique is described for the nontentative computer determination of the Galois groups of irreducible polynomials with integer coefficients. The technique for a given polynomial involves finding high-precision approximations to the roots of the polynomial, and fixing an ordering for these roots. The roots are then used to create resolvent polynomials of relatively small degree, the linear fa...

Factoring Polynomials over Special Finite Fields

We exhibit a deterministic algorithm for factoring polynomials in one variable over "nite "elds. It is e$cient only if a positive integer k is known for which ' k (p) is built up from small prime factors; here ' k denotes the kth cyclotomic polynomial, and p is the characteristic of the "eld. In the case k"1, when ' k (p)"p!1, such an algorithm was known, and its analysis required the generaliz...

On the Deterministic Complexity of Factoring Polynomials

The paper focuses on the deterministic complexity of factoring polynomials over finite fields assuming the extended Riemann hypothesis (ERH). By the works of Berlekamp (1967, 1970) and Zassenhaus (1969), the general problem reduces deterministically in polynomial time to finding a proper factor of any squarefree and completely splitting polynomial over a prime field Fp . Algorithms are designed...

When e-th Roots Become Easier Than Factoring

We show that computing e-th roots modulo n is easier than factoring n with currently known methods, given subexponential access to an oracle outputting the roots of numbers of the form xi + c. Here c is fixed and xi denotes small integers of the attacker’s choosing. The attack comes in two flavors: – A first version is illustrated here by producing selective roots of the form xi + c in Ln( 1 3 ...
