The magazine for the UK fish farming industry Outlook is published by Trouw Aquaculture and is distributed free to all those involved in the UK Fish Farming Industry. The purpose of Outlook is to create a forum for the presentation of developments in the field of aquaculture. As well as providing comprehensive technical support and advice, we are also one of the UK's leading suppliers of feeds into niche areas such as the organic market and 'minority' species such as carp and other coarse fish. Over the years, we have been a consistent supporter of Scotland's developments in new marine species and Nutreco Aquaculture has recently made a major investment in Norway by taking a stake in CCN, a potentially significant supplier of cod fry to this very exciting market. This, together with Marine Harvest Scotland's long-term investments in halibut farming, provides much impetus to the development of our ranges of marine feeds. In recent years, we have devoted significant resources to the development of feeds for these new species and, in consequence, have comprehensive ranges of diets for cod, turbot and halibut. The physical and nutritional requirements of larvae and fry of these new species are, of course, quite different to those of salmonids. Some of our exciting new advances in this specialist area are described in the article on Gemma (pp. 3-4). I hope that this issue of Outlook will provide something of interest for all readers as there are articles on a wide range of topics including marketing, trends …
