Ancestral Inference from Functional Data: Statistical Methods and Numerical Examples

چکیده
Many biological characteristics of evolutionary interest are not scalar variables but continuous functions. Here we use phylogenetic Gaussian process regression to model the evolution of simulated functionvalued traits. Given function-valued data only from the tips of an evolutionary tree and utilising independent principal component analysis (IPCA) as a method for dimension reduction, we construct distributional estimates of ancestral function-valued traits, and estimate parameters describing their evolutionary dynamics.

Phylogeographic Ancestral Inference Using the Coalescent Model on Haplotype Trees
Phylogeographic ancestral inference is issue frequently arising in population ecology that aims to understand the geographical roots and structure of species. Here, we specifically address relatively small scale mtDNA datasets (typically less than 500 sequences with fewer than 1000 nucleotides), focusing on ancestral location inference. Our approach uses a coalescent modelling framework project...
متن کاملStatistical Applications in Genetics and Molecular Biology
An important challenge in statistical genomics concerns integrating experimental data with exogenous information about gene function. A number of statistical methods are available to address this challenge, but most do not accommodate complexities in the functional record. To infer activity of a functional category (e.g., a gene ontology term), most methods use gene-level data on that category,...

متن کاملExtending the Qualitative Trajectory Calculus Based on the Concept of Accessibility of Moving Objects in the Paths
Qualitative spatial representation and reasoning are among the important capabilities in intelligent geospatial information system development. Although a large contribution to the study of moving objects has been attributed to the quantitative use and analysis of data, such calculations are ineffective when there is little inaccurate data on position and geometry or when explicitly explaining ...
متن کاملInference for the Proportional Hazards Family under Progressive Type-II Censoring
In this paper, the well-known proportional hazards model which includes several well-known lifetime distributions such as exponential,Pareto, Lomax, Burr type XII, and so on is considered. With both Bayesian and non-Bayesian approaches , we consider the estimation of parameters of interest based on progressively Type-II right censored samples. The Bayes estimates are obtained based on symmetric...
