On the Analysis and Construction of Perfectly Matched Layers for the Linearized Euler Equations

چکیده
We present a detailed analysis of a recently proposed perfectly matched layer (PML) method for the absorption of acoustic waves. The split set of equations is shown to be only weakly well-posed, and ill-posed under small low order perturbations. This analysis provides the explanation for the stability problems associated with the spilt eld formulation and illustrates why applying a lter has a stabilizing e ect. Utilizing recent results obtained within the context of electromagnetics, we develop strongly well-posed absorbing layers for the linearized Euler equations. The schemes are shown to be perfectly absorbing independent of frequency and angle of incidence of the wave in the case of a non-convecting mean ow. In the general case of a convecting mean ow, a number of techniques is combined to obtain a absorbing layers exhibiting PML-like behavior. The e cacy of the proposed absorbing layers is illustrated though computation of benchmark problems in aero-acoustics. 3

متن کاملOn Absorbing Boundary Conditions for Linearized Euler Equations by a Perfectly Matched Layer
Recently, Berenger introduced a Perfectly Matched Layer (PML) technique for absorbing electromagnetic waves. In the present paper, a perfectly matched layer is proposed for absorbing out-going two-dimensional waves in a uniform mean ow, governed by linearized Euler equations. It is well known that the linearized Euler equations support acoustic waves, which travel with the speed of sound relati...
متن کاملPerfectly Matched Layers equations for 3D acoustic wave propagation in heterogeneous media
This work is dedicated to the analysis of Berenger PML method applied to the 3D linearized Euler equations without advection terms, with variable wave velocity and acoustic impedance. It is an extension of a previous work presented in a 2D context [8]. The 3D linearized Euler equations are used to simulate propagation of acoustic waves beneath the subsurface. We propose an analysis of these equ...
متن کاملStability of perfectly matched layers, group velocities and anisotropic waves
Perfectly matched layers (PML) are a recent technique for simulating the absorption of waves in open domains. They have been introduced for electromagnetic waves and extended, since then, to other models of wave propagation, including waves in elastic anisotropic media. In this last case, some numerical experiments have shown that the PMLs are not always stable. In this paper, we investigate th...
