Simultaneous second-harmonic generation, third-harmonic generation, and four-wave mixing microscopy with single sub-8 fs laser pulses

چکیده
We demonstrate a compact pulse compression scheme that offers flexible chirp control for improved conversion efficiencies in high resolution nonlinear optical microscopy. An Er:fiber laser combined with a highly nonlinear optical fiber yields pulses centered at 1100 nm with a bandwidth of 500 nm. The compressed pulses with a duration of 7.6 fs enable simultaneous second-harmonic generation, third-harmonic generation, and four-wave mixing microscopy. The spectrum is tailored for an ideal compromise between conversion efficiency and spectral discrimination between the three types of broadband nonlinear signals. Distinct differences in structural contrast obtained from the simultaneous read-out of the three nonlinear signals are demonstrated in a biological sample. VC 2011 American Institute of Physics. Generation of sub-17 fs vacuum ultraviolet pulses at 133 nm using cascaded four-wave mixing through filamentation in Ne.
The sixth harmonic (6ω, 133 nm) of a Ti:sapphire laser is generated using cascaded four-wave mixing in filamentation propagation of the fundamental (ω) and the second harmonic (2ω) pulses through Ne gas. The method provides the 6ω pulse energy higher than 5 nJ/pulse at 1 kHz and a pulse duration shorter than 17 fs without dispersion compensation.
متن کاملMultimodal microscopy with sub-30 fs Yb fiber laser oscillator
Nonlinear optical microscopy with sub-30 fs pulses from an Yb-fiber laser, approximately three times shorter than typical fiber laser pulses, leads to an order of magnitude brighter third harmonic generation imaging. Multiphoton fluorescence, second and third harmonic generation modalities are compared on stained microspheres and unstained biological tissues.
متن کاملGeneration of Phase-Stable Sub-Cycle Mid-Infrared Pulses from Filamentation in Nitrogen
Sub-single-cycle pulses in the mid-infrared (MIR) region were generated through a laser-induced filament. The fundamental (ω1) and second harmonic (ω2) output of a 30-fs Ti:sapphire amplifier were focused into nitrogen gas and produce phase-stable broadband MIR pulses (ω0) by using a four-wave mixing process (ω1 + ω1 − ω2 → ω0) through filamentation. The spectrum spread from 400 cm−1 to 5500 cm...

A compact and stable method for generating high-intensity linearly polarized continuum mid-IR and terahertz light using ultrafast femtosecond (fs) laser pulses is demonstrated. Continuous light generation from <400 cm(-1) (12 THz, 25 microm) to >3300 cm(-1) (100 THz, 3 microm) in a sub-100 fs laser pulse is facilitated by nonlinear mixing of the fundamental, second harmonic, and third harmonic ...
متن کاملCascaded four-wave mixing for broadband tunable laser sideband generation.
We demonstrate the versatile broadband wavelength tunability of frequency upconverted multicolor cascaded four-wave-mixing (CFWM) signals spanning the continuous wavelength range from UV to near IR in a thin type-I BBO crystal using 35 fs, 800 nm fundamental and chirped IR supercontinuum white light pulses. Two sets of spatially dispersed CFWM laser sidebands are concomitantly generated from tw...
