Slack Elasticity in Concurrent Computing

چکیده
We present conditions under which we can modify the slack of a channel in a distributed computation without changing its behav ior These results can be used to modify the degree of pipelining in an asynchronous system The generality of the result shows the wide variety of pipelining alternatives presented to the designer of a concurrent sys tem We give examples of program transformations which can be used in the design of concurrent systems whose correctness depends on the conditions presented

Precise Dynamic Analysis for Slack Elasticity: Adding Buffering without Adding Bugs
Increasing the amount of buffering for MPI sends is an effective way to improve the performance of MPI programs. However, for programs containing non-deterministic operations, this can result in new deadlocks or other safety assertion violations. Previous work did not provide any characterization of the space of slack elastic programs: those for which buffering can be safely added. In this pape...

BACKGROUND Quantifying passive stretching responses of individual muscles helps the diagnosis of muscle disorders and aids the evaluation of surgical/rehabilitation treatments. Utilizing an animal model, we demonstrated that shear elastic modulus measured by supersonic shear wave elastography increases linearly with passive muscle force. This study aimed to use this state-of-the-art technology ...
متن کاملA Distortionary Tax Argument
Why Is the Public Sector More Labor-Intensive? A Distortionary Tax Argument Government-run entities are often more labor-intensive than private companies, even with identical production technologies. This need not imply slack in the public sector, but may be a rational response to its wage tax advantage over private firms. A tax-favored treatment of public production precludes production effici...
متن کاملTwo-tier project and job scheduling for SaaS cloud service providers
This study addresses a two-tier job scheduling problem for SaaS cloud service providers which rely on resources leased from IaaS cloud providers to achieve elasticity to computational power. In our model, a project represents a user request which consists of multiple jobs; the SaaS is obligated to complete projects using multiple resources leased from IaaS or PaaS providers. The goals are to re...
