Lagrangian acceleration measurements at large Reynolds numbers

چکیده
We report experimental measurements of Lagrangian accelerations in a turbulent water flow between counter-rotating disks for Taylor–Reynolds numbers 900,Rl,2000. Particle tracks were recorded by imaging tracer particles onto a position sensitive photodiode, and Lagrangian information was obtained from fits to the position versus time data. Several challenges associated with extracting Lagrangian statistical quantities from particle tracks are addressed. The acceleration variance is obtained as a function of Reynolds number and shows good agreement with Kolmogorov ~1941! scaling. The Kolmogorov constant for the acceleration variance is found to be a05763. © 1998 American Institute of Physics. @S1070-6631~98!00809-5#

Lagrangian and Eulerian Statistics of Pipe Flows Measured with 3D-PTV at Moderate and High Reynolds Numbers
Three-dimensional particle tracking velocimetry (3D-PTV) measurements have provided accurate Eulerian and Lagrangian high-order statistics of velocity and acceleration fluctuations and correlations at Reynolds number 10,300, based on the bulk velocity and the pipe diameter. Spatial resolution required in the analysis method and number of correlation samples required for Lagrangian and Eulerian ...
متن کاملAcceleration correlations and pressure structure functions in high-reynolds number turbulence.
We present measurements of fluid particle accelerations in turbulent water flow between counterrotating disks using three-dimensional Lagrangian particle tracking. By simultaneously following multiple particles with sub-Kolmogorov-time-scale temporal resolution, we measured the spatial correlation of fluid particle acceleration at Taylor microscale Reynolds numbers between 200 and 690. We also ...
متن کاملDirect Numerical Simulation of the Wake Flow Behind a Cylinder Using Random Vortex Method in Medium to High Reynolds Numbers
Direct numerical simulation of turbulent flow behind a cylinder, wake flow, using the random vortex method for an incompressible fluid in two dimensions is presented. In the random vortex method, the primary variable is vorticity of the flow field. After generation on the cylinder wall, it is followed in two fractional time step in a Lagrangian system of coordinates, namely convection and diffu...
متن کاملJoint statistics of acceleration and vorticity in fully developed turbulence
We report results from a high resolution numerical study of fluid particles transported by a fully developed turbulent flow at Rλ = 280. Single particle trajectories were followed for a time range spanning more than three decades, from less than a tenth of the Kolmogorov time-scale up to one large-eddy turnover time. We present results concerning acceleration statistics and the statistics of tr...
متن کاملStochastic Models of Lagrangian Acceleration of Fluid Particle in Developed Turbulence
Modeling statistical properties of motion of a Lagrangian particle advected by a high-Reynolds-number flow is of much practical interest and complement traditional studies of turbulence made in Eulerian framework. The strong and nonlocal character of Lagrangian particle coupling due to pressure effects makes the main obstacle to derive turbulence statistics from the three-dimensional Navier-Sto...
