چکیده

Background In recent years in vivo cardiac DTI using stimulated echo’s (STE) has matured into a reproducible technique. However the STE approach requires two heartbeats and intrinsically has a 50% lower SNR compared to spin-echo (SE). Although the STE method allows for short TE (23 ms) it also suffers from T1 signal decay and typically 8 signal averages (16 heartbeats) are needed for a single slice acquisition. In this study we aimed to develop a SE-based cardiac diffusion MRI protocol that allows for whole heart DTI as well as intra-voxel coherent motion (IVIM) for perfusion assessment.

Fast Diffusion Tensor Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Mouse Brain at Ultrahigh-Field: Aiming at Cohort Studies

INTRODUCTION In-vivo high resolution diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) of the mouse brain is often limited by the low signal to noise ratio (SNR) resulting from the required small voxel sizes. Recently, cryogenically cooled resonators (CCR) have demonstrated significant increase of the effective SNR. It is the objective of this study to enable fast DTI of the mouse brain. In this context, CCRs app...

Simultaneous magnetic resonance diffusion and pseudo‐diffusion tensor imaging

PURPOSE An emerging topic in diffusion magnetic resonance is imaging blood microcirculation alongside water diffusion using the intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) model. Recently, a combined IVIM diffusion tensor imaging (IVIM-DTI) model was proposed, which accounts for both anisotropic pseudo-diffusion due to blood microcirculation and anisotropic diffusion due to tissue microstructures. In t...

Accelerated free-breathing diffusion tensor MRI of the entire human heart using spatiotemporal registration and retrospective image selection

Background Currently diffusion tensor MRI (DTI) of the heart can be performed in vivo either with a dual-gated STE [1] or gated motion-compensated PGSE [2]. Both are inefficient due to cardiac and respiratory motion leading to long scan times [3]. Simultaneous multi-slice (SMS) blippedCAIPI [4] has emerged as a unique EPI technique to acquire multiple slices simultaneously. SMS has been used fo...

Analysis and Design of Higher-Order Motion-Compensated Diffusion Encoding Schemes for In Vivo Cardiac DTI

Introduction: Cardiac diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) [1-3] is increasingly used to characterize myocardial microstructure and myofiber orientation in both normal and diseased hearts. Clinical applications of the technique in humans have been made feasible by employing either STEAM [4] or bipolar diffusion encoding [5] in conjunction with acquisition during the quiescent phase of the cardiac cyc...

In vivo free-breathing DTI & IVIM of the whole human heart using a real-time slice-followed SE-EPI navigator-based sequence: a reproducibility study in healthy volunteers

PURPOSE In this study, we proposed an efficient free-breathing strategy for rapid and improved cardiac diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) acquisition using a single-shot spin-echo echo planar imaging (SE-EPI) sequence. METHODS A real-time slice-following technique during free-breathing was combined with a sliding acquisition-window strategy prior Principal Component Analysis temporal Maximum In...
