چکیده

Background: Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a rare disease characterized by microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, neurologic abnormalities, fever and renal dysfunction. The disease classically spares the lung tissue, but recently some cases were reported that presented with respiratory involvement (adult respiratory distress syndrome or pulmonaryrenal syndrome). Presentation with pulmonary-renal syndrome has rarely been reported. Case Presentation: We report a 14-yaers-old boy admitted to the hospital because of a biochemical evidence of renal failure. Two days after admission he developed a high fever, hemoptysis and respiratory distress. Open kidney biopsy was performed and confirmed the diagnosis and finally the patient expired due to neurologic involvement. Conclusion: This case is presented to discuss the need to update the criteria for TTP diagnosis and considering TTP in the differential diagnosis of pulmonary renal syndromes.

A case of Acquired Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura without Renal Dysfunction

Objective: Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is the most malignant variant of microangiopathy that usually presents by typical symptoms including thrombocytopenia, hemolytic anemia, neurological abnormalities, fever and renal impairment. Report of the Case: We report a 12-year-old male presented by cytopenia, fever, purpura on his extremities, seizure and lethargy. Peripheral blood sm...

Report of two unrelated cases of Familial Thrombotic Thrombocytopeic Purpura

Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) is a rare microangiopathic disorder characterised by the pentad of microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenic purpura, neurologic abnormalities, fever, and renal disease. Decreased production and/or activity of ADAMTS13 is the cause of this disorder. ADAMTS13 is a metalloproteinase which is responsible of the cleavage of high weight multimers o...

A Case Report of Successful Management of Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura Syndrome (TTP) in a Pregnant Woman with Plasmapheresis

Background and Aim: Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura is a rare and life-threatening disease with a relatively high prevalence of 5% in pregnancy that causes thrombocytopenia. Due to the high prevalence and mortality of fetal and maternal mortality, which resolves rapidly with the onset of plasmapheresis, the diagnosis of this disease is clinically important. The aim of this study was to succ...

Successful treatment for thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura complicated with myeloperoxidase anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibody-associated vasculitis

Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) complicated with myeloperoxidase anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibody (MPO-ANCA)-associated vasculitis is rare and generally has a serious prognosis. We report a case wherein TTP was successfully treated with repeated plasma exchange (PE) and MPO-ANCA-associated vasculitis with corticosteroids. The renal function consequently improved such that haem...

Wegener's granulomatosis complicated by intestinal ulcer due to cytomegalovirus infection and by thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.

A 61-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of acute kidney injury. She complained of general fatigue, appetite loss, and a high fever. Nodular lesions were observed on chest X-rays and there were >100 erythrocytes per high power field in her urinary sediment. A renal biopsy revealed necrotizing granulomatous glomerulonephritis, and her serum proteinase 3-antineutrophil cytoplasmic...
