NimbRo RS: A Low-Cost Autonomous Humanoid Robot for Multi-Agent Research
نویسندگان
چکیده
Due to the lack of commercially available humanoid robots, multi-agent research with real humanoid robots was not feasible so far. While quite a number of research labs construct their own humanoids and it is likely that some advanced humanoid robots will be commercially available in the near future, the high costs involved will make multi-robot experiments at least difficult. For these reasons we started with a low-cost commercial off-the-shelf humanoid robot, RoboSapien (developed for the toy market), and modified it for the purposes of robotics research. We added programmable computing power and a vision sensor in the form of a Pocket PC and a CMOS camera attached to it. Image processing and behavior control are implemented onboard the robot. The Pocket PC communicates with the robot base via infrared and can talk to other robots via wireless LAN. The readily available low-cost hardware makes it possible to carry out multi-robot experiments. We report first results obtained with this humanoid platform at the 8th International RoboCup in Lisbon.

Hierarchical and State-based Architectures for Robot Behavior Planning and Control
In this paper, two behavior control architectures for autonomous agents in the form of cross-platform C++ frameworks are presented, the State Controller Library and the Behavior Control Framework. While the former is state-based and generalizes the notion of states and finite state machines to allow for multi-action planning, the latter is behavior-based and exploits a hierarchical structure an...

Humanoid robots are increasingly popular as a research tool, which is motivated by the versatility of humans to locomote, to communicate, and to perform arbitrary tasks in unstructured environments. Progress of humanoid robotics is, however, severely inhibited by the lack of affordable robust platforms with a sufficient diversity of capabilities. In this work, we present a first prototype of a ...

متن کاملPlaying Soccer with RoboSapien
Due to limited availability of humanoid robots and the high costs involved, multi-agent experiments with humanoid robots have been at least difficult so far. With the introduction of RoboSapien, a low-cost humanoid robot developed for the toy market, this situation has changed. This paper describes how we augmented multiple RoboSapiens to obtain a team of soccer playing humanoid robots. We adde...
