چکیده

In Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technology, a cross layer design enhances the spectral efficiency, reliability and throughput of the network. In this paper, a cross-layer approach for k-NN based Adaptive Modulation Coding (AMC) and Incremental Redundancy Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (IR-HARQ) in MIMO is proposed. The proposed cross layer approach connects physical layer and data link layer to enhance the performance of MIMO network. By means of MIMO fading channels, the coded symbols are forwarded in the physical layer on a frame by frame fashion subsequently using space time block coding. The receiver computes the signal to noise ratio (SNR) and forwards back to the AMC controller. The controller selects a suitable MCS for the next transmission through k-NN classifier supervised learning algorithm. HARQ is utilized at the data link layer to regulate packet retransmissions. The proposed technique is simulated using Matlab. Keywords— Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC), Incremental Redundancy-Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (IR-HARQ), k-Nearest Neighbour (kNN), Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO).

Design of Adaptive Modulation and Coding Scheme for Truncated Hybrid ARQ

It has been known that adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) at the physical layer can be combined with a truncated automatic repeat request (ARQ) at the data link layer so as to maximize the spectral efficiency under prescribed delay and error performance constraint. In this paper, we consider the same joint design approach when incremental redundancy-based hybrid ARQ (IR-HARQ) is associated wi...

Design of Incremental Redundancy Hybrid-ARQ with Rate Compatible LDPC Codes

Mobile communication systems have been adopting link adaptive transmission schemes such as adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) and hybrid-ARQ (HARQ). Several wireless mobile communication systems have considered highly efficient incremental redundancy (IR) hybrid ARQ scheme. However IR-HARQ with LDPC codes has not been specified yet. In this paper, we propose an IR-HARQ scheme with rate compat...

Incremental Redundancy Hybrid-ARQ with Rate Compatible LDPC Codes

Hybrid ARQ (HARQ) is well known link adaptation scheme which improves system throughput combining the error correcting codes and retransmission scheme. The incremental redundancy (IR) HARQ transmits parity bits incrementally when the retransmission is requested and normally provides higher throughput than the Chase combining by adaptive transmission in accordance with channel variations. In thi...

Performance comparison of HARQ with Chase combining and incremental redundancy for HSDPA

In this paper we compare two hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) combining strategies that currently are considered for the high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) evolution of WCDMA. The two HARQ combining schemes are Chase combining, where the retransmissions are identical copies of the original transmission, and incremental redundancy (IR), where the retransmissions consist of new parit...

Modeling and Performances Evaluation of HARQ Technique for MIMO Transmission in Downlink LTE Cellular Networks

Long Term Evolution (LTE) is designed for deployment in a variety of spectrum allocation ranging from 1.4 MHz to 20 MHz. The peak data rate envisaged for LTE is 100 Mbps in downlink and 50 Mbps in the uplink. Unfortunately, different constraints have a strong influence on system performance such as the velocity of user equipment and effect of multipath channel. To achieve data rate compliance w...
