چکیده

In superstring theories, there exist various dilaton and modulus fields which masses are expected to be of the order of the gravitino mass m3/2. These fields lead to serious cosmological difficulties, so called “cosmological moduli problem”, because a large number of moduli particles are produced as the coherent oscillations after the primordial inflation. We make a comprehensive study whether the thermal inflation can solve the cosmological moduli problem in the whole modulus mass region mφ ∼ 10 eV–104 GeV predicted by both hidden sector supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking and gauge-mediated SUSY breaking models. In particular, we take into account the primordial inflation model whose reheating temperature is so low that its reheating process finishes after the thermal inflation ends. We find that the above mass region mφ(' m3/2) ∼ 10 eV–104 GeV survives from various cosmological constraints in the presence of the thermal inflation.

Cosmological Moduli Problem and Oscillating Inflation in Gauge-Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking

We investigate cosmological moduli problem in the gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking (GMSB). A mini-inflation (oscillating inflation) takes place when a scalar field corresponding to the flat direction in GMSB oscillates along the logarithmic potential induced by the gauge-mediation mechanism. It is shown that this oscillating inflation can sufficiently dilute the relic abundance of the stri...

Relaxing the cosmological moduli problem.

Typically the moduli fields acquire mass mφ = ±C H in the early universe, which shifts the position of the minimum of their effective potential and leads to an excessively large energy density of the oscillating moduli fields at the later stages of the evolution of the universe. This constitutes the cosmological moduli problem, or Polonyi field problem. We show that the cosmological moduli prob...

Cosmological Moduli Problem in Gauge-mediated Supersymmetry Breaking Theories

A generic class of string theories predicts the existence of light moduli fields, and they are expected to have masses mφ comparable to the gravitino mass m3/2 which is in a range of 10 −2keV–1GeV in gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking theories. Such light fields with weak interactions suppressed by the Planck scale can not avoid some stringent cosmological constraints, that is, they suffer f...

New Old Inflation

We propose a new class of inflationary solutions to the standard cosmological problems (horizon, flatness, monopole,...), based on a modification of old inflation. These models do not require a potential which satisfies the normal inflationary slow-roll conditions. Our universe arises from a single tunneling event as the inflaton leaves the false vacuum. Subsequent dynamics (arising from either...

Solving the Cosmological Moduli Problem with Weak Scale Inflation

Many models of supersymmetry breaking involve particles with weak scale mass and Planck mass suppressed couplings. Coherent production of such particles in the early universe destroys the successful predictions of nucleosynthesis. We show that this problem may be solved by a brief period of weak scale inflation. Furthermore the inflaton potential for such an inflation naturally arises from the ...
