چکیده

We give some characterizations of semicomputability of sets of reals by programs in certain While programming languages over a topological partial algebra of reals. We show that such sets are semicomputable if and only if they are one of the following: (i) unions of effective sequences of disjoint algebraic open intervals; (ii) unions of effective sequences of rational open intervals; (iii) unions of effective sequences of algebraic open intervals. For the equivalence (i), the While language must be augmented by a strong OR operator, and for equivalences (ii) and (iii) it must be further augmented by a strong existential quantifier over the naturals (While). We also show that the class of While semicomputable relations on reals is closed under projection. The proof makes essential use of the continuity of the operations of the algebra.

Burchard von Braunmühl, Computable Real Functions of Bounded Variation and Semi-computable Real Numbers

In this paper we discuss some basic properties of computable real functions of bounded variation (CBV-functions for short). Especially, it is shown that the image set of semi-computable real numbers under CBV-functions is a proper subset of the class of weakly computable real numbers; Two applications of CBV-functions to semi-computable real numbers produce the whole closure of semi-computable ...

A Finite Hierarchy of the Recursively Enumerable Real Numbers

For any set A of natural numbers, denote by xA the corresponding real number such that A is just the set of “1” positions in its binary expansion. In this paper we characterize the number xA for some classes of recursively enumerable sets A. Applying finite injury priority methods we show that there is a d-r.e. set A such that xA is not a semicomputable real number (which corresponds to the lim...

Computability of semicomputable manifolds in computable topological spaces

We study computable topological spaces and semicomputable and computable sets in these spaces. In particular, we investigate conditions under which semicomputable sets are computable. We prove that a semicomputable compact manifold M is computable if its boundary ∂M is computable. We also show how this result combined with certain construction which compactifies a semicomputable set leads to th...

Random Semicomputable Reals Revisited

The aim of this paper is to present a nice series of results, obtained in the papers of Chaitin [2], Solovay [5], Calude et al. [1], Kucera and Slaman [3]. This joint effort led to a full characterization of lower semicomputable random reals, both as those that can be expressed as a “Chaitin Omega” and those that are maximal for Solovay reducibility. The original proofs were somewhat involved; ...
