DATA RESOURCE PROFILE Data Resource Profile: 1991 Canadian Census Cohort

چکیده
The 1991 Canadian Census Cohort is the largest population-based cohort in Canada (N1⁄4 2 734 835). Prior to the creation of this Cohort, no national population-based Canadian cohort was available to examine mortality by socioeconomic indicators. The 1991 Canadian Census Cohort was created via the linkage of a subsample of respondents from the mandatory 1991 Canadian Census long-form to historical tax summary files, Canadian Mortality Database, Canadian Cancer Database, 1991 Health and Activity Limitation Survey and a sub-sample of the Longitudinal Worker File. Overall ascertainment of mortality and cancer is anticipated to be nearly complete and the Cohort is broadly representative of most groups in the Canadian population. The Cohort has been used to examine mortality outcomes by different indicators of socioeconomic status, occupational categories, ethnic groups, educational attainment, and for exposure to ambient air pollution. Results have shown that the estimated remaining years of life at age 25 differed substantially by income adequacy quintile, educational attainment, housing type and Aboriginal ancestry.

Examining the high users of hospital resources: implications of a profile developed from Australian health insurance claims data.
Objective To develop and examine a profile of the demographic, hospital admission and clinical characteristics of high users of hospital resources within a cohort of privately insured Australians. Methods Hospital admissions claims data from a group of private health insurance funds were analysed. The top 1% of hospital users were selected based on three measures of resource utilisation: number ...
متن کاملUse of the Nottingham Health Profile to test the validity of census variables to proxy the need for health care.
BACKGROUND Data on health or health service use are invariably used to test the validity of proxy measures of need, for use in resource allocation formulae. Perceived health state is a good measure to use in this respect, as it is closely linked to perceived need and the decision to consult health services. This being the case, a large community based study was undertaken which collected data o...

Objective: Soil temperature serves as a key variable in hydrological investigations to determine soil moisture content as well as hydrological balance in watersheds. The ingoing research aims to shed lights on potential of artificial neural networks (ANNs) and Neuro-Fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) to simulate soil temperature at 5-100 cm depths. To satisfy this end, climatic and...

متن کاملSocial determinants of lung cancer incidence in Canada: A 13-year prospective study.
BACKGROUND The risk of lung cancer has been shown to be inversely related to socioeconomic status (SES). Because the Canadian Cancer Registry does not contain socioeconomic data, the 1991 Canadian Census Cohort was used to study social determinants of lung cancer risk in the general Canadian population. DATA AND METHODS This study examines incidence rates of lung cancer and histologic subtype...
