Performance Assessment of Optical Burst Switching Ring and Chordal Ring Networks

چکیده
This paper presents a performance analysis of optical burst switching (OBS) networks with ring and chordal ring topologies. The performance analysis considers signaling protocols with one-way reservation schemes, being focused on the following protocols: just-in-time (JIT), Jumpstart, JIT+, justenough-time (JET) and Horizon. It is shown that for a network with 20 nodes, the nodal degree gain due to the increase of nodal degree from two (ring) to three (chordal ring) is about three orders of magnitude in the first hop of both topologies, and is between two and three orders of magnitude in the last hop of each topology. It is also shown that the largest chord length gain, in a 20-node OBS network with a chordal ring topology, is slightly less than two orders of magnitude.

Performance Implications of Nodal Degree for Optical Burst Switching Mesh Networks Using Signaling Protocols with One-Way Reservation Schemes
This paper investigates the role of nodal degree (meshing degree) in optical burst switching (OBS) mesh networks using signaling protocols with one-way reservation schemes. The analysis is focused on the following topologies: rings, degree-three chordal rings, degree-four chordal rings, degree-five chordal rings, mesh-torus, NSFNET, ARPANET and the European Optical Network. It is shown that whe...

This paper discusses performance implications of meshing degree (or nodal degree) for optical burst switching (OBS) mesh networks using one-way resource reservation protocols. The analysis is focused on the following topologies: rings, chordal rings with nodal degrees ranging from three to six, mesh-torus, NSFNET, ARPANET and the European Optical Network (EON). It is shown that the largest noda...
متن کاملIssues on Performance Assessment of Optical Burst Switched Networks: Burst Loss Versus Packet Loss Metrics
With the increasing interest in optical burst switching (OBS) networks, the performance assessment of this kind of networks became of particular concern. Recently, some authors suggested that burst loss was not a reliable performance assessment metric for OBS networks. Refuting this claim, this paper presents simulation results obtained for a ring network, using real tributary IPv4 packets as s...
متن کاملA simulation study of optical burst switching and access protocols for WDM ring networks
We consider a wavelength division multiplexing metro ring architecture with optical burst switching. The ring consists of N nodes, and each node owns a home wavelength on which it transmits its bursts. The ring operates under the fixed transmitter tunable receiver scheme. Control information is transmitted on a separate control channel. Five different burst switching access protocols are propos...
