The distribution and variation of Synura species (Chrysophyceae) in Connecticut, USA
نویسنده
چکیده
The genus Synura was found to be an important member of the phytoplankton communities in many Connecticut lakes, present in more than fifty percent of the 113collections made during 1984. Thirteen taxa, including a new forma, Synura petersenii f. truttae, were recorded for the first time in Connecticut waters using SEM. S. petersenii was the most important species, present in forty-one percent of the samples. Evidence for denoting S. petersenii var. glabra as a form, instead of a variety, is presented. Ecological preferences for some species are discussed.

Posterior/anterior distribution of radiolabel on lateral renal images: Possible use in studying the retroperitoneum
At 30 minutes after intravenous administration of the glomerular renal agent TC-99m-DTPA, both right and left lateral views were obtained. We analyzed the ratio of optical densities (behind the ureter/In front of the ureter). In patients without gross renal failure or retroperitoneal disease, the ratio was always less than 1 (range 0.38 to 0.95, mean 0.68). This represents greater perfusi...
متن کاملMagnesiothermic conversion of the silica-mineralizing golden algae Mallomonas caudata and Synura petersenii to elemental silicon with high geometric precision
Chrysophyceae, also known as golden algae, contain characteristic, three-dimensional biomineralized silica structures. Their chemical composition and microscopic structure was studied. By high-temperature conversion of the skeleton of Mallomonas caudata and Synura petersenii into elementary silicon by magnesium vapour, nanostructured defined replicates were produced which were clearly seen afte...
متن کاملAn inventory of scaled chrysophytes from North Carolina, USA, and their relationships to environmental variables
The distributions of silica-scaled chrysophytes in 27 freshwater ponds from three primary regions located along the Atlantic Coastal Plain of North Carolina, USA, relative to chemical gradients are described. Phytoplankton, periphyton, and surface sediments from each of the 27 sites were collected in May and June of 2001 and later analyzed extensively with both scanning electron microscopy (SEM...
متن کاملEvaluation of an Infant with Cholestasis and Congenital Hypopituitarism
We are reporting an infant with persistent abnormal liver function, neonatal jaundice, and intermittent hypoglycemia. Evaluation confirmed congenital hypopituitarism, in the absence of congenital anomalies and midline defect. His jaundice and abnormal liver function improved after treatment with Levothyroxine and hydrocortisone.
متن کاملLocalized kidney uptake of bone imaging agent following renal irradiation
A 14 years old girl, with documented Ewing's sarcoma, was treated by both chemotherapy and surgery. An initial bone scan (TC-99m-MI)I*) did not reveal a renal lesion. However, following therapeutic irradiation, there was retention of the bone imaging agent in a portion of the kidney that had been included in the radiation field. This reflected the effects of radiation related parenchymal ...
