چکیده

UNLABELLED BACKGROUND Recent in vitro and in vivo studies have suggested a critical role of osteocalcin (OC), especially the undercarboxylated form (ucOC), in insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity. The objective of this study was to investigate the association between serum ucOC levels and insulin resistance in humans with type 2 diabetes mellitus. FINDINGS We measured serum ucOC levels in 129 patients with type 2 diabetes. Insulin resistance was assessed using the euglycemic hyperinsulinemic clamp technique. The insulin resistance indices used were the M value, which is the total body glucose disposal rate, and the M/I value, which is the M value adjusted for the steady state plasma insulin level. ucOC levels were not correlated with the M value (ρ = -0.013, p = 0.886) or the M/I value (ρ = 0.001, p = 0.995). CONCLUSIONS We found no association between ucOC levels and insulin resistance in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Liraglutide, a Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Analog, Increased Insulin Sensitivity Assessed by Hyperinsulinemic-Euglycemic Clamp Examination in Patients with Uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

AIMS Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) analog promotes insulin secretion by acting on pancreatic β-cells. This antihyperglycemic treatment for type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) has attracted increased clinical attention not only for its antihyperglycemic action but also for its potential extrapancreatic effects. We investigated whether liraglutide, a GLP-1 analog, could enhance insulin sensitivity as...

Comparison of the [13C]glucose breath test to the hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp when determining insulin resistance.

OBJECTIVE With increasing emphasis on the recognition of the metabolic syndrome and early type 2 diabetes, a clinically useful measure of insulin resistance is desirable. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether an index of glucose metabolism, as measured by (13)CO(2) generation from ingested [(13)C]glucose, would correlate with indexes from the hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp. RES...

Comment on: Tam et al. Defining Insulin Resistance From Hyperinsulinemic-Euglycemic Clamps. Diabetes Care 2012;35:1605–1610

The euglycemic-hyperinsulinemic clamp is the gold standard for evaluating insulin sensitivity. As such, it is extremely helpful in evaluating the effect of an intervention or in comparing insulin sensitivities between two or more groups. What remains a challenge is to decide the values above which insulin resistance is defined. Tam et al. (1) proposed cutpoints based on the results in 167 white...

Surrogate index for insulin sensitivity composed of factors not using glucose and insulin in Japanese patients with diabetes

INTRODUCTION   The aim of the present study is to propose a novel index of insulin sensitivity instead of homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), which has a fundamental limitation of validity when applied to subjects with lower insulin secretions or high fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels. MATERIALS AND METHODS   A total of 25 apparently healthy subjects and 24 patient...
