Supporting and Guiding Learners’ Collaboration through a Structured Adaptive Communication Tool
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents a web-based synchronous adaptive communication tool, referred to as ACT, which supports and guides learners’ communication/collaboration by adopting the structured form of the dialogue and utilizing as “communication-scaffolding” tools both sentence openers and communication acts. The ACT tool adapts the provided set of the “communication-scaffolding” tools according to the cognitive skills addressed by the learning activity, the model of collaboration followed by the group members and the educational tool used for the elaboration of the activity. During their communication, learners have the possibility to enrich the predefined sets of the “communication-scaffolding” tools, to connect their messages with other already sent messages, to monitor their debate in a visual graphical representation form through the Dialogue Tree and to reflect on their communication/collaboration by accessing the results of the quantitative analysis of their contributions. The first empirical results are encouraging regarding the provided facilities.

ACT: a web-based adaptive communication tool
This paper presents a web-based adaptive communication tool, called ACT. ACT supports and guides the learners’ communication/collaboration by implementing the structured dialogue either through sentence openers or communication acts. The scaffolding sentence templates are adapted according to the cognitive skills addressed by the learning activity, the model of collaboration followed and the ed...
متن کاملSupporting Chinese distance learners through computer-mediated communication: revisiting Salmon's model
Salmon’s (2000) proposed model for the effective development of on-line communication and collaboration between student suggests that on-line socialisation forms an early and important component of establishing required levels of comfort and skill. In this paper we review research with Chinese learners that suggests that some adjustments to Salmon’s model may be advisable for these students. Sp...

ECLiP provides guidelines for the design of an integrated se...
متن کاملAnalysing Learner Interaction in an Adaptive Communication Tool
This paper presents an approach to analyse learner interaction, both quantitatively and qualitatively, in the context of a synchronous adaptive communication tool, named ACT. The quantitative analysis aims to provide information about learners’ contributions to the dialogue and the results are presented in a graphical form. Τhe qualitative analysis aims to exploit various attributes regarding l...
متن کاملConnections, Communication and Collaboration in Healthcare’s Complex Adaptive Systems; Comment on “Using Complexity and Network Concepts to Inform Healthcare Knowledge Translation”
A more sophisticated understanding of the unpredictable, disorderly and unstable aspects of healthcare organisations is developing in the knowledge translation (KT) literature. In an article published in this journal, Kitson et al introduced a new model for KT in healthcare based on complexity theory. The Knowledge Translation Complexity Network Model (KTCNM) provides a fresh perspective by mak...
