چکیده

The first phase of the ISAC II project consists of the acceleration of radioactive ions by 20 superconducting DTL's with a total effective voltage of ~20MV. Each of these cavities will be powered at a frequency of 106.08 MHz to a maximum field gradient of 6 MV/m. With unloaded cavity Q's of ~10, the RF control system for these superconducting cavities is based on a self-excited feedback loop. The self-excited frequency is stabilized by an internal analogue Phase-Locked Loop. A digital phase/frequency discriminator and a quadrature combiner are used to provide phase locking to an external frequency reference to allow all the cavities to run synchronously. The demodulated amplitude, phase, and frequency are feedback regulated with digital signal processors. This paper describes the RF control system and the experience gained in operating this system with a single test cavity.

Adaptive Tuner Control in Triumf Isac 2 Superconducting Linac Using Kalman Filter

The TRIUMF ISAC 2 RF control system uses phase locking self-excited control. Amplitude, phase and frequency control is achieved with I/Q voltage injection, and forward RF power is minimized with a tuner feedback loop. The phase difference between the input coupler and the output pickup drives a velocity servo system to provide tuning control. However, the presence of microphonics in the cryomod...

Upgrade of the Isac Dtl Tuning Procedure at Triumf

The TRIUMF ISAC facility has two variable energy heavy ion linacs as post accelerators for radioactive ion beams. The ISAC I linac is a warm IH-DTL with five accelerating tanks and three bunchers, the ISAC II linac uses twenty independently phased superconducting cavities. The first linac operates between 150keV/u and 1.8Mev/u; the second boosts the 1.5MeV/u injected beam by 20MV. The DTL is tu...

Re-phasing of the Isac Superconducting Linac with Computed Values

The ISAC superconducting linac is a fully operational machine that routinely provides beam to experiments. The linac consists of twenty superconducting independently phased cavities housed in five cryomodules. The initial tune is done manually aided by MATLAB routines to phase the linac and set the correct optics. From the initial tune we calculate the gradient at which each cavity operates bas...

Beam Dynamics Studies on the Isac Ii Superconducting Linac

The ISAC II superconducting linac is presently in the beam commissioning phase. The linac lattice consists of modules of four quarter wave cavities and one superconducting solenoid. At the moment five cryomodules (indicated as medium beta section) are installed. Beam steerers between cryomodules compensate for steering effects due to misalignments in the solenoids. Beam dynamics aspects of lina...

Superconducting Rf Control Issues at Cesr*

RF controls of the superconducting cavities have to deal with an extremely heavy beam loading in CESR. A feature of the CESR RF system operation is that superconducting cavities are under-coupled at high beam currents. This means that the RF system operates very close to Robinson stability limit. Analysis of the steadystate stability of the CESR RF system and the results of measurements with be...
