Cost-effectiveness of percutaneous radiofrequency ablation for malignant hepatic neoplasms

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Health technology The health technology examined in the study was radiofrequency (RF) ablation, a minimally invasive technique for the treatment of malignant liver neoplasms, in particular hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and colorectal liver metastases (CLM). Percutaneous RF ablation involves the insertion of one or more electrodes into the tumour nodule under imaging guidance. A high-frequency alternating electrical current is then applied and increased temperatures initiate protein denaturation. This strategy reduces the need for an open procedure and can easily be performed on an outpatient basis.

Cost-effectiveness of percutaneous radiofrequency ablation for malignant hepatic neoplasms.

PURPOSE Percutaneous radiofrequency (RF) ablation is a promising technique for the treatment of hepatic malignancies. However, its cost-effectiveness has not been established. The purpose of this study is to determine the cost-effectiveness of RF ablation compared to palliative care in the treatment of hepatocellular cancer and colorectal liver metastases. This study also seeks to evaluate the ...

Cryosurgical ablation and radiofrequency ablation for unresectable hepatic malignant neoplasms: a proposed algorithm.

BACKGROUND Thermal ablation of unresectable hepatic tumors can be achieved by cryosurgical ablation (CSA) or radiofrequency ablation (RFA). The relative advantages and disadvantages of each technique have not yet been determined. HYPOTHESIS Radiofrequency ablation of malignant hepatic neoplasms can be performed safely, but is currently limited by size. Cryosurgical ablation, while associated ...

Safety and efficacy of laparoscopic radiofrequency ablation for hepatic malignancies

PURPOSE Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is an accepted treatment option for primary and metastatic liver tumors. As percutaneous RFA has some limitations, laparoscopic RFA (LRFA) has been used as a therapeutic alternative for the treatment of hepatic malignancies. METHODS Between March 2006 and September 2009, thirty patients with hepatic malignancies that were contraindicated for resection or ...

Percutaneous CT-guided radiofrequency ablation of pulmonary malignant tumors: preliminary report.

OBJECTIVE Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is frequently used for hepatic malignant tumors, but few reports discuss its use for lung tumors. We report our pilot clinical study with RFA for the treatment of pulmonary malignant tumors. PATIENTS AND METHODS Five patients with histologically-proven malignant primary and three metastatic lung tumors underwent a total of 11 RFA procedures. RFA was per...
