چکیده

About the cover: confocal microscopy picture illustrating the neurons of the medial prefron-tal cortex (in red) and the innervation by cells that produce acetylcholine (green). e main question that is dealt with in this thesis is how acetylcholine that is released in the mPFC aects processing in the circuits of the mPFC. Note that a very small population of mPFC neurons is capable of producing acetylcholine themselves.

prelimbic of medial prefrontal cortex GABA modulation through testosterone on spatial learning and memory

Prefrontal cortex (PFC) is involved in multiple functions including attentional , spatial orientation, short and long-term memory. Our previous study indicated that microinjection of testosterone in CA1 impaired spatial learning and memory. Some evidence suggests that impairment effect of testosterone is mediated by GABAergic system. In the present study, we investigated the interaction of test...

The Study of Apomorphine Effects and Heterogeneity in the Medial Prefrontal Cortex on the Dopaminergic Behaviors of Rats

Objective(s) While the nucleus accumbens and the striatum have received much attention regarding their roles in stereotyped behaviors, the role of the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) has not been investigated to the same degree. Few studies have reported the role of the mPFC in dopaminergic induction of locomotor hyperactivity. The mPFC is a heterogeneous area (the anterior cingulated, prelimbi...

Cholinergic modulation of the medial prefrontal cortex: the role of nicotinic receptors in attention and regulation of neuronal activity

Acetylcholine (ACh) release in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) is crucial for normal cognitive performance. Despite the fact that many have studied how ACh affects neuronal processing in the mPFC and thereby influences attention behavior, there is still a lot unknown about how this occurs. Here we will review the evidence that cholinergic modulation of the mPFC plays a role in attention and...

Opposing Cholinergic and Serotonergic Modulation of Layer 6 in Prefrontal Cortex

Prefrontal cortex is a hub for attention processing and receives abundant innervation from cholinergic and serotonergic afferents. A growing body of evidence suggests that acetylcholine (ACh) and serotonin (5-HT) have opposing influences on tasks requiring attention, but the underlying neurophysiology of their opposition is unclear. One candidate target population is medial prefrontal layer 6 p...
