Special Session 28: Fluids and Turbulence

چکیده
Ever since the work of Foias and Temam in case of the Navier-Stokes equations (NSE), the use of Gevrey norms has become standard fare in estimating the radius of analyticity in various nonlinear evolution equations. Recent investigations revealed that these are also closely connected to asymptotic behavior of solutions and the study of the global attractor. In most of the studies to date, by considering an adequate Gevrey norm, one shows that the space analyticity radius grows at least as a power of time upto a certain time point. This time point is usually expressed in terms of a Sobolev norm of the initial data. On the other hand, the solution to the 3D NSE is known to be analytic as long as its Sobolev H norm is nite. We consider an auxilliary equation that couples the the space analyticity radius to the 3D NSE. This allows us to study its time evolution more precisely and thus obtain improved estimates. As a corollary, we show that a close relation exists between the analyticity radius and the regularity of the solution to the 3D NSE.

Numerical Predictions of Turbulent Mixed Convection Heat Transfer to Supercritical Fluids Using Various Low Reynolds Number k-e Turbulence Models
There are a number of systems in which supercritical cryogenic fluids are used as coolants or propellant fluids. In some modern military aircraft, the fuel is pressurized above its critical point and used as a coolant to remove heat from the aircraft engine. Accurate prediction of heat transfer coefficients to turbulent flows of supercritical fluids is essential in design of such systems. One o...
متن کاملTurbulence in Fluids
The seminar gives an introduction to turbulent motions of incompressible fluids. Due to the nature of the subject, most of the explanations are qualitative, although references to the actual fundamental equations underlying the processes are also made. Special emphasis is made on the dynamics of vorticity in turbulent flows and the main results of the celebrated Kolmogorov 1941 theory.

This special session focuses on the dynamic properties of fluids and nonlinear waves arsing in systems such as Euler equations, kinetic equations, nonlinear Schrodinger equations, nonlinear wave equations etc. The main aspects include the global well-posedness of solutions, existence, stability/instability and nearby local qualitative structures of special states etc. The theory and the methods...
متن کاملAnalysis of Pseudo-Turbulence Flow Induced by Bubble Periodic Formation in Non-Newtonian Fluids
Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) has been employed to determine pseudo-turbulence characteristics of the flow field around bubble train forming in non-Newtonian caboxymethylcellulose (CMC) aqueous solution at low gas flow rate condition. The Reynolds stress and turbulent intensity of the liquid were investigated by means of Reynolds time-averaged method. The experimental results show that ax...
متن کاملIntroduction to quantum turbulence.
The term quantum turbulence denotes the turbulent motion of quantum fluids, systems such as superfluid helium and atomic Bose-Einstein condensates, which are characterized by quantized vorticity, superfluidity, and, at finite temperatures, two-fluid behavior. This article introduces their basic properties, describes types and regimes of turbulence that have been observed, and highlights similar...
