چکیده

This paper presents an agent-based approach to modelling individual driver behaviour under the influence of real-time traffic information. The driver behaviour models developed in this study are based on a behavioural survey of drivers which was conducted on a congested commuting corridor in Brisbane, Australia. Commuters responses to travel information were analysed and a number of discrete choice models were developed to determine the factors influencing drivers behaviour and their propensity to change route and adjust travel patterns. Based on the results obtained from the behavioural survey, the agent behaviour parameters which define driver characteristics, knowledge and preferences were identified and their values determined. A case study implementing a simple agent-based route choice decision model within a microscopic traffic simulation tool is also presented. Driver-vehicle units (DVUs) were modelled as autonomous software components that can each be assigned a set of goals to achieve and a database of knowledge comprising certain beliefs, intentions and preferences concerning the driving task. Each DVU provided route choice decision-making capabilities, based on perception of its environment, that were similar to the described intentions of the driver it represented. The case study clearly demonstrated the feasibility of the approach and the potential to develop more complex driver behavioural dynamics based on the belief–desire–intention agent architecture. 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. Over the next few years, driver behavior should become more informed with the advent and deployment of in-vehicle navigation systems. This paper analyzes systems that provide the driver the fastest path between his or her current location and final destination, updated in real-time to consider recurring and nonrecurring congestion. The traveler s full cost per trip is a bundle comprised of both...

Traffic flow control in automated highway systems (AHS) is addressed. A link layer controller for a hierarchical AHS architecture is presented. The controller proposed in this paper stabilizes the vehicular density and flow around predetermined profiles in a stretch of highway using speed and lane changes as control signals. Multiple lane highways in which vehicles have different destinations a...

This paper is concerned with the traffic flow stability/instability induced by a particular adaptive cruise control (ACC) policy, known as the ‘‘constant time headway (CTH) policy’’. The control policy is analyzed for a circular highway using three different traffic models, namely a microscopic model, a spatially discrete model, and a spatially continuous model. It is shown that these three dif...

Third-generation personal navigation assistants (PNAs) (i.e., those that provide a map, the user's current location, and directions) must be able to reconcile the user's location with the underlying map. This process is known as map matching. Most existing research has focused on map matching when both the user's location and the map are known with a high degree of accuracy. However, there are ...

A major diculty in the analysis of disaggregate activity-travel behavior in the past arises from the many interacting dimensions involved (e.g. location, timing, duration and sequencing of trips and activities). Often, the researcher is forced to decompose activity-travel patterns into their component dimensions and focus only on one or two dimensions at a time, or to treat them as a multidime...
