Soundness Preserving Approximation for TBox Reasoning in R

چکیده
TBox reasoning in description logics is hard. For example, reasoning in SROIQ (i.e. OWL2-DL) is N2ET-complete; even with R, a fragment of SROIQ supportingALCGCIs and role chains, the complexity of reasoning is 2ET-hard. Although various optimisation techniques have been applied, existing tableau-based DL reasoners are still inefficient in dealing with arbitrary GCIs especially when complex role chains present. In this paper, we present a soundness preserving approximation for TBox reasoning in R. The main idea is to convert R ontologies to EL with an additional complement table maintaining the complementary relations between named concepts. Since existing benchmarks do not focus on complex GCIs and RIs, we propose a new set of testing ontologies for TBox reasoning inR and our preliminary evaluation shows that a naive implementation of our complement-integrated TBox reasoning algorithm outperforms existing reasoners on most of these ontologies.

Soundness Preserving Approximation for TBox Reasoning
Large scale ontology applications require efficient and robust description logic (DL) reasoning services. Expressive DLs usually have very high worst case complexity while tractable DLs are restricted in terms of expressive power. This brings a new challenge: can users use expressive DLs to build their ontologies and still enjoy the efficient services as in tractable languages. In this paper, w...
متن کاملTowards Soundness Preserving Approximation for ABox Reasoning of OWL2
ABox Reasoning in large scale description logic (DL) knowledge bases, e.g. ontologies, is important for the success of many semantic-enriched systems. Performance of existing approaches, such as the tableau-based approach, and the disjunctive datalog approach, is restricted by their theoretical worst case complexity bound. In this paper, we propose a soundness-preserving approximate reasoning a...
متن کاملFast ABox Consistency Checking Using Incomplete Reasoning and Caching
Reasoning with complex ontologies can be a resource-intensive task, which can be an obstacle, e.g., for real-time applications. Hence, weakening the constraints of soundness and/or completeness is often an approach to practical solutions. In this paper, we propose an extension of incomplete reasoning methods for checking the consistency of a large number of ABoxes against a given TBox. In parti...
متن کاملA Proof Theory for DL-Lite
In this work we propose an alternative approach to inference in DLLite, based on a reduction to reasoning in an extension of function-free Horn Logic (EHL). We develop a calculus for EHL and prove its soundness and completeness. We also show how to achieve decidability by means of a specific strategy, and how alternative strategies can lead to improved results in specific cases. On the one hand...
متن کاملExtract ABox Modules for Efficient Ontology Querying
Extracting logically-independent fragments out of an ontology ABox can be useful for solving the tractability problem of querying ontologies with large ABoxes. In this paper, we propose a formal definition of an ABox module, such that it guarantees complete preservation of facts of a given set of individuals, and thus can be reasoned independently w.r.t. the ontology TBox. With ABox modules of ...
