چکیده

A semi-classical formalism is used to calculate the radiation reaction of a relativistic particle in a straight, continuous focusing system. Due to the absence of quantum excitation in such a fo-cusing system, the radiation damping rate of the transverse action obtained using this formalism agrees exactly with the result from the classical Lorentz-Dirac radiation reaction equation. In the limit where the pitch angle of the particle is much smaller than the radiation opening angle, the transverse action damps exponentially with an energy-independent rate that is much faster than the energy decay rate. In the opposite limit, both the transverse action and the energy damp with power laws and their relative rates are comparable. The general time-dependence of the transverse action damping and the energy decay are obtained analytically from these rate equations.

Semi-classical Noise Treatment of Generated Supercontinuum Light by a Finite Energy Airy Pulse

In this paper, a stochastic term is added to the classical generalized nonlinear Schrödinger Equation to describe the noise generated when light pulses propagate in a fiber. It has been shown that the generated supercontinuum light source fluctuates up to 50% of its output temporal intensity profile due to noises of different sources. The simulation method devised has been applied to the propag...

Limits on the Applicability of Classical Electromagnetic Fields as Inferred from the Radiation Reaction1

Can the wavelength of a classical electromagnetic field be arbitrarily small, or its electric field strength be arbitrarily large? If we require that the radiationreaction force field be smaller than the Lorentz force we find limits on the classical electromagnetic field that herald the need for a better theory, i.e., one in better accord with experiment. The classical limitations find ready in...

Hydrogen Abstraction Reaction of Hydroxyl Radical with 1,1-Dibromoethane and 1,2-Dibromoethane Studied by Using Semi-Classical Transition State Theory

The hydrogen abstraction reaction by OH radical from CH2BrCH2Br (R1) and CH₃CHBr2 (R2) is investigated theoretically by semi-classical transition state theory. The stationary points for both reactions are located by using ωB97X-D and KMLYP density functional methods along with cc-pVTZ basis. Single-point energy calculations are performed at the QCISD(T) and CCSD(T) levels of theory with differe...
