چکیده

Ontology is widely used to solve the data heterogeneity problems on the semantic web, but the available ontologies could themselves introduce heterogeneity. In order to reconcile these ontologies to implement the semantic interoperability, we need to find the relationships among the entities in various ontologies, and the process of identifying them is called ontology alignment. In all the existing matching systems that use evolutionary approaches to optimize their parameters, a reference alignment between two ontologies to be aligned should be given in advance which could be very expensive to obtain especially when the scale of ontologies is considerably large. To address this issue, in this paper we propose a novel approach to utilize the NSGA-II to optimize the ontology alignments without using the reference alignment. In our approach, an adaptive aggregation strategy is presented to improve the efficiency of optimizing process and two approximate evaluation measures, namely match coverage and match ratio, are introduced to replace the classic recall and precision on reference alignment to evaluate the quality of the 858 X. Xue, Y. Wang, W. Hao, J. Hou alignments. Experimental results show that our approach is effective and can find the solutions that are very close to those obtained by the approaches using reference alignment, and the quality of alignments is in general better than that of state of the art ontology matching systems such as GOAL and SAMBO.

Optimizing ontology alignments by using NSGA-II

In this paper, we propose a novel approach based on NSGA-II to address the problem of optimizing the aggregation of three different basic similarity measures (syntactic measure, linguistic measure and taxonomy-based measure) and get a single similarity metric. Comparing with conventional genetic algorithm, the proposed method is able to realize three goals simultaneously, i.e., maximizing the a...

Alignment Cubes: Towards Interactive Visual Exploration and Evaluation of Multiple Ontology Alignments

Ontology alignment is an area of active research where many algorithms and approaches are being developed. Their performance is usually evaluated by comparing the produced alignments to a reference alignment in terms of precision, recall and F-measure. These measures, however, only provide an overall assessment of the quality of the alignments, but do not reveal differences and commonalities be...

Towards valid and reusable reference alignments — ten basic quality checks for ontology alignments and their application to three different reference data sets

Identifying relationships between hitherto unrelated entities in different ontologies is the key task of ontology alignment. An alignment is either manually created by domain experts or automatically by an alignment system. In recent years, several alignment systems have been made available, each using its own set of methods for relation detection. To evaluate and compare these systems, typical...

Aligning Multiple Anatomical Ontologies through a Reference

Objective: To investigate the feasibility of deriving an indirect alignment between two ontologies from the two direct alignments of these ontologies to a reference ontology. The three anatomical ontologies under investigation are the Adult Mouse Anatomical Dictionary (MA), the NCI Thesaurus (NCI) and the Foundational Model of Anatomy (FMA). Methods: The direct alignment employs a combination o...

Using Partial Reference Alignments to Align Ontologies

In different areas ontologies have been developed and many of these ontologies contain overlapping information. Often we would therefore want to be able to use multiple ontologies. To obtain good results, we need to find the relationships between terms in the different ontologies, i.e. we need to align them. Currently, there already exist a number of ontology alignment systems. In these systems...
