Neutral contrast MRI for the detection of peripheral arterial wall calcifications

چکیده
Background Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a potentially debilitating condition affecting more than 200 million people worldwide. CT angiography (CTA) has become the preferred modality of vascular surgeons for the imaging evaluation of PAD, because of its simplicity and widespread availability. However, vessel wall calcifications, frequently present in diabetic and elderly patients, diminish its clinical utility (1). MR angiography (MRA) is also an accurate test for PAD (2). Unlike CTA, vessel wall calcifications are invisible with MRA and do not impair diagnostic accuracy. However, the invisibility of calcifications is also a substantial deficiency given that the distribution and severity of vessel wall calcifications have clinical implications for interventional treatment strategy (3), and the presence of vessel wall calcifications contributes additional risk for morbidity and mortality. In order to overcome this significant limitation, we have implemented a novel “neutral contrast 3D

Association between aortic stiffness, carotid vessel wall thickness and stenosis severity in peripheral arterial occlusive disease: a comprehensive MRI study
Background In atherosclerosis, arterial wall thickening and stiffening precede luminal narrowing. MRI is well-validated for imaging vessel wall thickness (VWT) and stiffness expressed in pulse wave velocity (PWV, defined as the propagation speed of the pressure or flow wave through the aorta). Contrast-enhanced MR angiography (CEMRA) has evolved into a reliable tool for stenosis detection in pe...
متن کاملAn Efficient Framework for Accurate Arterial Input Selection in DSC-MRI of Glioma Brain Tumors
Introduction: Automatic arterial input function (AIF) selection has an essential role in quantification of cerebral perfusion parameters. The purpose of this study is to develop an optimal automatic method for AIF determination in dynamic susceptibility contrast magnetic resonance imaging (DSC-MRI) of glioma brain tumors by using a new preprocessing method.Material and Methods: For this study, ...
متن کاملSite-specific coupling between aortic pulse wave velocity, carotid vessel wall thickness and peripheral stenosis severity in peripheral arterial occlusive disease at 3T MRI
Background Arterial wall stiffening and thickening are part of the atherosclerosis process leading to luminal narrowing. A close link between distal aortic pulse wave velocity (PWV) and peripheral vascular disease, reflecting sitespecific relationship between local plaque burden and vascular disease, is hypothesized. Purpose of this study was to compare peripheral arterial stenosis severity on ...
متن کاملAutomatic Prostate Cancer Segmentation Using Kinetic Analysis in Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced MRI
Background: Dynamic contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) provides functional information on the microcirculation in tissues by analyzing the enhancement kinetics which can be used as biomarkers for prostate lesions detection and characterization. Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate spatiotemporal patterns of tumors by extracting semi-quantitative as well as w...
متن کاملGray blood magnetic resonance for carotid wall imaging and visualization of deep-seated and superficial vascular calcifications.
White blood and black blood magnetic resonance imaging methods are often used for lumenography and visualization of the arterial wall, respectively. However, the use of white blood imaging invariably obscures arterial wall boundaries, and thus, impedes precise measurement of arterial wall area. Conversely, black blood imaging imposes strict limits on sequence timing to suppress the arterial lum...
