چکیده

This study provided a quantitative analysis of the kinematic deviances in dysarthria associated with spastic cerebral palsy. Of particular interest were tongue tip movements during alveolar consonant release. Our analysis based on EMA measures indicated that speakers with spastic dysarthria had a restricted range of articulation and disturbances in articulatory-voicing coordination. The degree of kinematic deviances was greater for lower intelligibility speakers, supporting an association between articulatory dysfunctions and intelligibility in spastic dysarthria.

Inducing speech errors in dysarthria using tongue twisters.

Although tongue twisters have been widely use to study speech production in healthy speakers, few studies have employed this methodology for individuals with speech impairment. The present study compared tongue twister errors produced by adults with dysarthria and age-matched healthy controls. Eight speakers (four female, four male; mean age = 54.5 years) with spastic (mixed-spastic) dysarthria...

Tongue movements and their acoustic consequences in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

OBJECTIVE The relations between acoustic measures and their articulatory bases have rarely been tested in dysarthria but are important for diagnostic and treatment purposes. We tested the association between acoustic measures of F2 range and F2 slope with kinematic measures of tongue movement displacement and speed in individuals with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and healthy controls spe...

Symptomatic differences in decreased alternating motion rates between individuals with spastic and with ataxic dysarthria: an acoustic analysis.

Acoustic analysis was conducted to investigate symptomatic differences in decreased oral alternating motion rates (AMRs) between individuals with spastic and with ataxic dysarthria. The subjects were 6 individuals with spastic dysarthria, 6 with ataxic dysarthria and 6 normal speakers. Monosyllables /pa/ and /ta/ were used to examine alternating motions of the lips and tongue, respectively. In ...

Characteristics of Korean Diphthong in Patient with Dysarthria caused by Stroke: Analysis with Sound Spectrogram

This study investigated the acoustic phonetic characteristics of Korean diphthongs in 16 healthy controls, in 8 speakers with spastic dysarthria, and in 8 speakers with flaccid dysarthria. The subjects read /ja/, /wi/ and mean formant values were analyzed based on the spectrograms. The formant transition duration for the vowel /ja/ was longer for speakers with flaccid dysarthria than the contro...

Lip and tongue function differently affected in individuals with multiple sclerosis.

Clinical dysarthria test scores on lip function and tongue function were compared for 77 dysarthric as well as non-dysarthric subjects with multiple sclerosis (MS) and 15 control subjects. Results show that tongue function was significantly more severely affected than lip function in individuals with MS. Furthermore, tongue function, but not lip function, was significantly more severely affecte...
