Sensitivity analysis and fast computation of packet loss probabil- ities in multiplexer models

چکیده
A statistical multiplexer is a basic model used in the design and the dimensioning of communication networks. The multiplexer model consists of a finite buffer, to store incoming packets, served by a single server with constant service time, and a more or less complicated arrival process. The aim is to determine the packet loss probability as a function of the capacity of the buffer. An exact analytic approach is unfeasible in real time, and hence we show how techniques from rational approximation theory can be applied to the computation of the packet loss. Since the parameters used in such networks may not produce precise probabilities of interest without having to introduce drastic assumptions, we also carry out a perturbation analysis with respect to these parameters. Using techniques from interval arithmetic, we can deliver sharp bounds for the true uncertainity effect. The latter is very important because the packet loss probability function can be very sensitive to relatively small changes in the network parameters.

Loss Volume in Continuous Flow Models: Fast Simulation and Sensitivity Analysis via Ipa
This paper defines a class of fluid-flow models, called Continuous Flow Models (CFMs), representable as DEDS (Discrete Event Dynamic System) models. The CFM class is motivated by emerging high-speed packet-based telecommunications networks for which traditional queueing simulations at the packet level are prohibitively costly in time and space, or simply infeasible. In contrast, CFM-based fluid...
متن کاملFast bounds for ATM Quality of Service parameters
In this paper we demonstrate how fast estimates of Quality of Service parameters can be obtained for models of VBR traac queuing in the buuer of an ATM multiplexer. The technique rests on conservative estimates of cell-loss ratios in the buuer. These are obtained through martingale methods; the cell-loss ratio from a buuer of size x is bounded as Probbcell-loss] e ?u?x : An estimate of the mean...

In this paper, we show that the steady...
متن کاملFast Simulation of a Voice-Data Multiplexer
The determination of packet loss rates in multiplexers is an important problem that has received much attention in the literature. This paper considers the problem of estimating, via simulation, extremely low packet loss rates in a voice-data multiplexer. The multiplexer gives priority to voice packets, unless the data queue length exceeds a threshold. To eeciently simulate such low loss rates ...

The helicopter-borne electromagnetic (HEM) frequency-domain exploration method is an airborne electromagnetic (AEM) technique that is widely used for vast and rough areas for resistivity imaging. The vast amount of digitized data flowing from the HEM method requires an efficient and accurate inversion algorithm. Generally, the inverse modelling of HEM data in the first step requires a precise a...
