چکیده

This paper presents a 115-mW Global Positioning System radio receiver that is implemented in a 0.5m CMOS technology. The receiver includes the complete analog signal path, comprising a low-noise amplifier, I-Q mixers, on-chip active filters, and 1-bit analog-digital converters. In addition, it includes a low-power phase-locked loop that synthesizes the first local oscillator. The receiver achieves a 2.8-dB noise figure (prelimiter), a 56-dB spurious-free dynamic range, and a 17-dB signal-to-noise ratio for a noncoherent digital back-end implementation when detecting a signal power of 130 dBm at the radio-frequency input.

The Design and Implementation of Low-power Cmos Radio Receivers a Dissertation Submitted to the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Committee on Graduate Studies of Stanford University in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy

A S CMOS technologies continue to enjoy the bene ts of aggressive scaling, they become increasingly attractive for use in wireless receivers. Peak device fT 's on the order of 15GHz are available with 0.5 m CMOS devices, making possible CMOS implementations of radio receivers in the 1-2GHz frequency range. One wireless system in this range that is particularly amenable to integration is a Globa...

A Low Noise Amplifier Optimized for a GPS Receiver RF Front End

A cascode LNA was optimized for a GPS receiver radio frequency front end using a 0.18 μm CMOS technology. By careful choice of device geometry, gate and source degeneration inductors, a fully integrated LNA can be optimized to have a low noise figure, a high voltage gain and a wide dynamic range. The optimized LNA has a 1.512 dB noise figure, a –42.05 dB S11, a 20.04 dB voltage gain a –19.82 dB...

In-Pixel Autoexposure CMOS APS

A CMOS active pixel sensor (APS) with in-pixel autoexposure and a wide dynamic-range linear output is described. The chip features a unique architecture enabling a customized number of additional bits per pixel per readout, with minimal effect on the sensor spatial or temporal resolution. By utilizing multiple readouts via real-time feedback, each pixel in the field of view can automatically se...

Widely Programmable High-Frequency Active RC Filters in CMOS Technology

We propose a circuit technique that enables the realization of widely programmable high-frequency active RC filters in CMOS technology. A fifth-order Chebyshev ladder filter having a digitally programmable 3-dB bandwidth (from 44 to 300 MHz) is used as a vehicle to validate our ideas. The opamp uses feedforward compensation for achieving high dc gain and wide bandwidth. The integrating resistor...

SP 22.3: A 12mW Wide Dynamic Range CMOS Front-End for a Portable GPS Receiver

To achieve a wide dynamic range, the noise figure of the LNA and linearity of the mixer are of primary concern. Figure 2 shows the circuit schematic of the LNA. A differential architecture is chosen in anticipation of eventual integration of a complete GPS receiver. Its common mode rejection eases the task of rejecting interference from other on-chip elements, such as a DSP core. This choice re...
