چکیده

We have used measurements from instruments on Voyagers 1 and 2 and Pioneer 10 to derive simultaneous radial and latitudinal gradients of anomalous cosmic-ray oxygen during the latter part of 1985. We find that in the energy interval from 7.130.6 Me V /nucleon the latitudinal gradient is -3 to -4 %/deg. The sign of the latitudinal gradient is opposite to that reported for the last solar cycle when the solar magnetic field polarity was reversed, as predicted by propagation models in which curvature and gradient drifts are significant. The ratios of the radial and latitudinal gradients of anomalous oxygen, anomalous helium, and galactic cosmic rays are similar, also in agreement with drift theory ·predictions. Based on drift theory, these observed ratios, which are near unity, lead to estimates of Kif~ in the range of 38 x 1022 cm2 /sec at 24.9 AU for particles with rigidities of -2-3 GV.

Sh 6.4-3 Radial and Latitudinal Gradients of Anomalous Cosmic-ray Oxygen and Helium and Galactic Cosmic Rays in the Outer Heliosphere

We have used measurements from instruments on Voyagers 1 and 2 and Pioneer 10 to derive simultaneous latitudinal and radial gradients of anomalous cosmic-ray helium and oxygen and galactic cosmic rays during the latter part of 1986. We find that the negative latitudinal gradients that first appeared in 1985 when Voyager 1 reached heliolatitudes in excess of the current sheet continue to be obse...

A Two - Dimensional , Self - Consistent Model of Galactic Cosmic Rays in the Heliosphere

We present initial results from our new two-dimensional (radius and latitude), self-consistent model of galactic cosmic rays in the heliosphere. We focus on the latitudinal variations in the solar wind flow caused by the energetic particles. Among other things our results show that the cosmic rays significantly modify the latitudinal structure of the solar wind flow downstream of the terminatio...

Radial and latitudinal gradients of anomalous cosmic ray oxygen in the inner heliosphere

[1] We use data from the Ulysses, Advanced Composition Explorer, and Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory spacecraft to determine the radial and latitudinal gradients of anomalous cosmic ray oxygen in two energy ranges from 4.5–15.6 MeV/nuc in the inner heliosphere for the first time during an A<0 part of the solar cycle. Using measurements from early 2007 to mid-2008, we find that the radia...

Observations of galactic cosmic rays and the anomalous helium during Ulysses passage from the south to the north solar pole

We compare observations of the modulated intensities and spectra of galactic cosmic ray nuclei and anomalous heliumabove 30MeV/nmeasured by theCOsmic andSolar Particle INvestigations (COSPIN) High Energy Telescope (HET) on Ulysses with similar observations from the IMP-8 earthorbiting satellite between September 1994 and August 1995. During this interval Ulysses made a rapid scan of solar latit...

Time-variability in the Interstellar Boundary Conditions of the Heliosphere: Effect of the Solar Journey on the Galactic Cosmic Ray Flux at Earth

During the solar journey through galactic space, variations in the physical properties of the surrounding interstellar medium (ISM) modify the heliosphere and modulate the flux of galactic cosmic rays (GCR) at the surface of the Earth, with consequences for the terrestrial record of cosmogenic radionuclides One phenomenon that needs studying is the effect on cosmogenic isotope production of cha...
