چکیده

The applications of 3D-virtual environments and Voice User Interface (VUI) on personal computers have received significant attention in recent years. Since speech is the most natural way of communication, incorporating VUI into virtual environments can greatly enhance user interaction and immersiveness. Although there have been many researches addressing the issue of integrating VUI and 3D-virtual environment, most of the proposed solutions do not provide an effective mechanism for multiuser dialogue management. The objective of this research is on providing a solution for integrated dialogue management and realising such a mechanism in a collaborative Multi User Virtual Environment (MUVE). We have designed a dialogue scripting language called eXtensible Animation Markup Language – Voice Extension (XAML-V), based on the VoiceXML standard, to address the issues of synchronisation with animation and dialogue management for multiuser interaction. We have also realised such a language on a MUVE to evaluate the effectiveness of this design.

Exploring Communicative Modes for a Virtual Environment: A Social Psychological Analysis

This paper reports from an experimental study of cooperative work in a collaborative virtual environment (CVE) with sixty test subjects. A method from social psychology, interaction process analysis (IPA), was used for analyzing group dynamics within the CVE in relation to three communicative modes: text-chat, voice, and video conferencing. The study investigated how the communicative mode infl...

Text-based peer–peer collaborative dialogue in a computer-mediated learning environment in the EFL context

This study investigates EFL learners’ dialogues in synchronous task-based computer-mediated communication (CMC). The focus is on whether learners engage each other in text-based dialogues regarding the language use in pursuit of the task goal in the CMC context and how their mutual engagement impacts their language learning. Sixteen Chinese tertiary-level learners voluntarily participated in th...

Side effect free dialogue management in a voice enabled procedure browser

We describe a general side-effect free dialogue management architecture suitable for command and control tasks, which extends the “update semantics” framework by including task as well as dialogue information in the information state. We show that this enables simple and elegant treatments of several dialogue management problems, including corrections, confirmations, querying of the environment...

Collaborative Behaviour Modelling of Virtual Agents using Communication in a Mixed Human-Agent Teamwork

The coordination is an essential ingredient for the mixed human-agent teamwork. It requires team members to share knowledge to establish common grounding and mutual awareness among them. In this paper, we proposed a collaborative conversational belief-desire-intention (CBDI) behavioural agent architecture that allows to enhance the knowledge sharing using natural language communication between ...
