Customizing meaning: building domain-specific semantic representations from a generic lexicon
نویسندگان
چکیده
Language input to practical dialogue systems must be transformed into a semantic representation that is customized for use by the back-end domain reasoners. At the same time, we want to keep front-end system components as domain independent as possible for easy portability across multiple domains. We propose a transparent way to achieve domain specificity from a broad-coverage domain-independent parser. We maintain a domain-independent ontology and define a set of mappings from it into a domain-specific knowledge representation. We use the mappings to customize the semantic representations output by the parser for the reasoners, and to specialize the lexicon to the domain, which improves parsing speed and accuracy. This method facilitates our approach to instances of semantic type coercion common in our domains by combining lexical representations with domain-specific constraints on interpretation.

Linking Semantic and Knowledge Representations in a Multi-Domain Dialogue System
We describe a two-layer architecture for supporting semantic interpretation and domain reasoning in dialogue systems. Building systems that support both semantic interpretation and domain reasoning in a transparent and well-integrated manner is an unresolved problem because of the diverging requirements of the semantic representations used in contextual interpretation versus the knowledge repre...
متن کاملFinding the balance between generic and domain-specific knowledge: a parser customization strategy
Adapting spoken dialogue systems across domains presents a challenge of finding the balance between wide-coverage parsers which can be easily ported but are slow and inaccurate, and domain-specific parsers which are fast and accurate but lack portability. We propose a method for customizing a wide-coverage, domain-independent parser to specific domains. We maintain a domain-independent ontology...
متن کاملSemantic Lexicon Acquisition for Learning Parsers
This paper describes a system, Wolfie (WOrd Learning From Interpreted Examples), that learns a semantic lexicon from a corpus of sentences paired with representations of their meaning. The lexicon learned consists of words paired with representations of their meaning, and allows for both synonymy and polysemy. Wolfie is part of an integrated system that learns to parse novel sentences into thei...
متن کاملA Supervised Semantic Parsing with Lexicon Extension and Syntactic Constraint
Existing semantic parsing research has steadily improved accuracy on a few domains and their corresponding meaning representations. In this paper, we present a novel supervised semantic parsing algorithm, which includes the lexicon extension and the syntactic supervision. This algorithm adopts a large-scale knowledge base from the open-domain Freebase to construct efficient, rich Combinatory Ca...
متن کاملSemi-Supervised Affective Meaning Lexicon Expansion Using Semantic and Distributed Word Representations
In this paper, we propose an extension to graph-based sentiment lexicon induction methods by incorporating distributed and semantic word representations in building the similarity graph to expand a threedimensional sentiment lexicon. We also implemented and evaluated the label propagation using four different word representations and similarity metrics. Our comprehensive evaluation of the four ...
