چکیده

The alternation-free fragment of the propositional modal μ-calculus (AFμ) allows less complex decision procedure for satisfiability judgment than the full μ-calculus, yet it still has strong expressive power. In this paper, we present a concrete decision procedure with its complexity for AFμ enriched by features of nominals, backward modalities, and functional modalities. While AFμ with all three features is undecidable, AFμ with two out of the three features are decidable and the procedure is sound and complete for these combinations. The procedure is suitable for implementation with BDDs. An application of the decision procedure for shape analysis is also reported.

A Decision Procedure for Alternation-free Two-way Modal mu-calculus

The satisfiability checking problem is known to be decidable for a variety of modal/temporal logics such as the modal μ-calculus, but effective implementation has not necessarily been developed for all such logics. In this paper, we propose a decision procedure using the tableau method for the alternation-free two-way modal μ-calculus. Although the size of the tableau set maintained in the meth...

Sequent Calculi for the Modal µ-Calculus over S5

We present two sequent calculi for the modal μ-calculus over S5 and prove their completeness by using classical methods. One sequent calculus has an analytical cut rule and could be used for a decision procedure the other uses a modified version of the induction rule. We also provide a completeness theorem for Kozen’s Axiomatisation over S5 without using the completeness result established by W...

Grammar Logics in Nested Sequent Calculus: Proof Theory and Decision Procedures

A grammar logic refers to an extension to the multi-modal logic K in which the modal axioms are generated from a formal grammar. We consider a proof theory, in nested sequent calculus, of grammar logics with converse, i.e., every modal operator [a] comes with a converse [a]−1. Extending previous works on nested sequent systems for tense logics, we show all grammar logics (with or without conver...

Simple Decision Procedure for S5 in Standard Cut-free Sequent Calculus

In the paper a decision procedure for S5 is presented which uses a cut-free sequent calculus with additional rules allowing a reduction to normal modal forms. It utilizes the fact that in S5 every formula is equivalent to some 1-degree formula, i.e. a modally-flat formula with modal functors having only boolean formulas in its scope. In contrast to many sequent calculi (SC) for S5 the presented...

Model Checking and Higher - Order

Since Muller and Schupp have shown that monadic second-order logic is decidable for context-free graphs in MS85], several specialized procedures have been developed for related problems, mostly for sublogics like the modal-calculus, or even its alternation-free fragment. This work shows the decidability of s1s, the trace version of msol, for the richer set of macro graphs. The generation mechan...
