Lichen Planus Or Lichenoid Dysplasia : Is It Premalignant !

چکیده
Is Oral Lichen planus (OLP) an inherently premalignant condition? The question about premalignant potential of OLP has been mired by controversy. OLP and other lichenoid dysplysia of oral mucosa occur commonly, and yet they are poorly understood. Furthermore, the role of Histochemical markers, Quantitative cytology and Morphometry as prognostic tools in evaluation of OLP has been proved beyond doubt. In the present study nuclear and cytoplasmic volume of basal cells, Spinous cell maximum diameter in OLP, normal mucosa and oral carcinoma are measured on Hematoxylin and Eosin stained sections using image analysis software. All the parameters were seen to be increased. Nuclear volume is almost three times that of normal mucosa in OLP and six times that of normal mucosa in oral sq cell carcinoma. Spinous cell maximum diameter has also increased from normal mucosa to OLP to oral sq cell carcinoma.Statistically significant differences were noted and the results obtained may have a value in predicting their behavior.

Oral Lichen Planus or Oral Lichenoid Reaction? A Literature Review
Background and Aim: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic, inflammatory, T-cell-mediated autoimmune oral mucosal disease. Oral lichenoid lesions develop as a type IV hypersensitivity reaction. Both of these entities are potential precancerous conditions; this adds to their clinical significance. The purpose of this literature review was to detect the similarities and the differences of these le...

OBJECTIVES To determine diagnostic value of modified Liquid Based Brush Biopsy technique. STUDY DESIGN 26 oral premalignant and malignant lesions in 25 patients (12 females; 54.23+/-19.77 years and 13 males; 53.77+/-15.43 years) underwent Modified (Liquid Based) Brush Biopsy and scalpel biopsy simultaneously from the same area. RESULTS There were 16 positive and 10 negative brush biopsy res...
متن کاملSquamous Cell Carcinoma Arising from an Oral Lichenoid Lesion: A Case Report
Lichenoid reactions represent a family of lesions with different etiologic factors and a common clinical and histologic ap-pearance. Lichen planus is included with lichenoid reactions and is a relatively common chronic mucocutaneous disorder. The most important complication of lichenoid reactions is the possibility of malignant transformation. That is why it has been considered a precancerous c...
متن کاملMolecular markers as an indicator in the malignant potential of oral lichen planus: A systematic review
BACKGROUND AND AIM: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic, autoimmune, inflammatory disease. The progression of OLP to oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) has generated a longstanding controversy about the details of this malignant transformation potential. This study aimed to do a systematic review on the molecular markers related to the malignant transformation of OLP.METHODS: We searched the...
متن کاملTissue eosinophils as a histopathological marker in oral premalignant and malignant lesions: a histochemical study
Introduction: Although recent studies show the association of eosinophils with different tumors including oral malignancies, the role of eosinophils in premalignant conditions of the oral cavity is not known precisely. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the number of eosinophils in premalignant and malignant conditions of the oral cavity and its role in progression to malignancy. Materia...
