چکیده

A number of current face recognition algorithms use face representations found by unsupervised statistical methods. Typically these methods find a set of basis images and represent faces as a linear combination of those images. Principal component analysis (PCA) is a popular example of such methods. The basis images found by PCA depend only on pairwise relationships between pixels in the image database. In a task such as face recognition, in which important information may be contained in the high-order relationships among pixels, it seems reasonable to expect that better basis images may be found by methods sensitive to these high-order statistics. Independent component analysis (ICA), a generalization of PCA, is one such method. We used a version of ICA derived from the principle of optimal information transfer through sigmoidal neurons. ICA was performed on face images in the FERET database under two different architectures, one which treated the images as random variables and the pixels as outcomes, and a second which treated the pixels as random variables and the images as outcomes. The first architecture found spatially local basis images for the faces. The second architecture produced a factorial face code. Both ICA representations were superior to representations based on PCA for recognizing faces across days and changes in expression. A classifier that combined the two ICA representations gave the best performance.

Video-based face recognition in color space by graph-based discriminant analysis

Video-based face recognition has attracted significant attention in many applications such as media technology, network security, human-machine interfaces, and automatic access control system in the past decade. The usual way for face recognition is based upon the grayscale image produced by combining the three color component images. In this work, we consider grayscale image as well as color s...

Iterative Weighted Non-smooth Non-negative Matrix Factorization for Face Recognition

Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) is a part-based image representation method. It comes from the intuitive idea that entire face image can be constructed by combining several parts. In this paper, we propose a framework for face recognition by finding localized, part-based representations, denoted “Iterative weighted non-smooth non-negative matrix factorization” (IWNS-NMF). A new cost fun...

Face Recognition using Eigenfaces , PCA and Supprot Vector Machines

This paper is based on a combination of the principal component analysis (PCA), eigenface and support vector machines. Using N-fold method and with respect to the value of N, any person’s face images are divided into two sections. As a result, vectors of training features and test features are obtain ed. Classification precision and accuracy was examined with three different types of kernel and...

Normalization Discriminant Independent Component Analysis

In face recognition, feature extraction techniques attempts to search for appropriate representation of the data. However, when the feature dimension is larger than the samples size, it brings performance degradation. Hence, we propose a method called Normalization Discriminant Independent Component Analysis (NDICA). The input data will be regularized to obtain the most reliable features from t...

Independent component analysis in a local facial residue space for face recognition

In this paper, we propose an Independent Component Analysis (ICA) based face recognition algorithm, which is robust to illumination and pose variation. Generally, it is well known that the 5rst few eigenfaces represent illumination variation rather than identity. Most Principal Component Analysis (PCA) based methods have overcome illumination variation by discarding the projection to a few lead...
