OWL Query Answering Based on Query Extension

چکیده
The paper presents an approach for optimizing query answering algorithms that are based on approximate instance retrieval. We consider SPARQL instance queries over OWL ontologies and use the OWL 2 Direct Semantics entailment regime of SPARQL for their evaluation. Approximate query answering algorithms are based on the creation of two sets; the set of certain or known query answers and the set of possible query answers, which require checks to determine whether they are real answers. Typically, it is expensive to check the possible answers hence our goal in this paper is to reduce the number of possible answers returned by approximate reasoning algorithms. We present an approach for using schema knowledge from the terminology (TBox) to optimize the evaluation of SPARQL instance queries. We proceed by transforming the query into a set of assertions (ABox). We then show how the TBox and this (small) query ABox can be used to build an equivalent query where the additional query atoms can be used for reducing the set of possible mappings for query variables.

Meta-modeling Extension of Horn-SROIQ and Query Answering
We investigate reasoning and query answering in expressive domain knowledge bases (KBs) that are in OWL 2 Full and contain large individual data sets. For this, we introduce Hi(Horn-SROIQ) and meta-queries based on HiLog semantics. Hi(Horn-SROIQ) is extended from Horn-SROIQ, the horn fragment of the most expressive description logic (DL) for OWL 2 with well known low data complexity, by allowin...
متن کاملExtending DL-Lite_A with (Singleton) Nominals
In this paper we study the extension of description logics of the DL-Lite family with singleton nominals, which correspond in OWL 2 to the ObjectHasValue construct. Differently from arbitrary (nonsingleton) nominals, which make query answering intractable in data complexity, we show that both knowledge base satisfiability and conjunctive query answering stay first-order rewritable when DL-LiteA...
متن کاملPay-As-You-Go OWL Query Answering Using a Triple Store
We present an enhanced hybrid approach to OWL query answering that combines an RDF triple-store with an OWL reasoner in order to provide scalable pay-as-you-go performance. The enhancements presented here include an extension to deal with arbitrary OWL ontologies, and optimisations that significantly improve scalability. We have implemented these techniques in a prototype system, a preliminary ...
متن کاملOn the SPARQL Direct Semantics Entailment Regime for OWL 2 QL
OWL 2 QL is the profile of OWL 2 targeted to Ontology-Based Data Access (OBDA) scenarios, where large amount of data are to be accessed and thus query answering is required to be especially efficient in the size of such data, namely AC0 in data complexity. On the other hand, the syntax and the semantics of the SPARQL query language for OWL 2 is defined by means of the Direct Semantics Entailmen...
متن کاملHydrowl: A Hybrid Query Answering System for OWL 2 DL Ontologies
This system description paper introduces the OWL 2 query answering system Hydrowl. Hydrowl is based on novel hybrid techniques which in order to compute the query answers combine at run-time a reasoner ans1 supporting a (tractable) fragment of OWL 2 (e.g., OWL 2 QL and OWL 2 RL) with a fully-fledged OWL 2 DL reasoner ans2. The motivation is that if most of the (query answering) work is delegate...
