Q-PYTHIA: a medium-modified implementation of final state radiation
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present a Monte Carlo implementation, within PYTHIA, of medium-induced gluon radiation in the final state branching process. Medium effects are introduced through an additive term in the splitting functions computed in the multiple-soft scattering approximation. The observable effects of this modification are studied for different quantities as fragmentation functions and the hump-backed plateau, and transverse momentum and angular distributions. The anticipated increase of intra-jet multiplicities, energy loss of the leading particle and jet broadening are observed as well as modifications of naive expectations based solely on analytical calculations. This shows the adequacy of a Monte Carlo simulator for jet analyses. Effects of hadronization are found to wash out medium effects in the soft region, while the main features remain. To show the performance of the implementation and the feasibility of our approach in realistic experimental situations we provide some examples: fragmentation functions, nuclear suppression factors, jet shapes and jet multiplicities. The package containing the modified routines is available for public use. This code, which is not an official PYTHIA release, is called Q-PYTHIA. We also include a short manual to perform the simulations of jet quenching.

Implementation of a medium-modified parton shower algorithm
We present a Monte Carlo implementation of medium-induced gluon radiation in the final-state branching process. Medium effects are introduced through an additive term in the splitting functions. We have implemented such modification within PYTHIA. We show the medium effects on the hump-backed plateau, and the transverse momentum and angular distributions with respect to the parent parton. As ex...
متن کاملQCD Radiation off Heavy Particles
An algorithm for an improved description of final-state QCD radiation is introduced. It is matched to the first-order matrix elements for gluon emission in a host of decays, for processes within the Standard Model and the Minimal Supersymmetric extension thereof. The objective of this article is to summarize the improved description of parton shower evolution [1] recently introduced starting wi...
متن کاملQ-pythia — a Monte Carlo Implementation for Jet Quenching
RHIC experiments have established jet quenching as a fundamental tool in the study of hot matter in heavy-ion collisions. The energy reached is enough for high-pT inclusive particle studies and oneor two-particle correlations up to pT ≃ 10−20 GeV. The corresponding data are successfully described by a formalism based on radiative energy losses. This formalism needs, however, to be improved for ...

متن کاملNew extraction of color-octet NRQCD matrix elements from charmonium hadroproduction
We re-analyze Tavatron data on charmonium hadroproduction in the framework of the color-octet model implemented in the event generator PYTHIA taking into account initial-state radiation of gluons and AltarelliParisi evolution of final-state gluons fragmenting into cc pairs. We obtain new values for the color-octet matrix elements relevant to this production process. We discuss the sensitivity o...
